How does the 96' stand up?
Hey guys Ive got this 96' coupe 300 hp. Ive been reading about the newer cars coming out the new mustang, GTO, etc.. How would my old 96, do against some of the new cars out there?? Could I beat a lot of them in a Zero-60 shoot out???

All those other cars weigh more, so I wouldn't sweat it.

If being beaten by a newer car is an issue with you, just don't race 'em.

I read somewhere that the new Mustang runs a 1\4 mile best of 14.1. I'm not sure if that is accurate or not, but it's damn pathetic for a new car. I had the priveledge of test driving the 04 GTO and I wasn't impressed. Besides... even if they are faster than you... you are talking about cars that are 9 years newer than yours. Cars continue to evolve and improve over time... well accept for GM who just kills off the line up. During those improvements, they will get faster over time. This is really comparing apples to oranges

The don't sweat the new mustang GT or the GTO you mentioned. Yes the new GT has 300hp but it only has 315lbs.. torque where you and I have 340lbs..not to mention the weight difference and good ole GM engnieering that makes screamers.
The GTO would be closer on your heels but I think it's like a 14.1 or so car in the 1/4 which still doesn't beat you.
basically just watch out for z06's and the c6 for now!

I did some researching and the current GTO is just the ls1 350hp so like I said don't sweat that one but they will soon have the 400 hp ls2...so that might even out the weight issue.. Lets hope not!
