Default Lost Antenna

Recently purchased a new power antenna P/N 10067977 from GM for my 89 coupe since the old one was not going down all the way and shaft was recessed below the quarter panel grommet. Today I decided to tale the Vette to word and on the way the antenna dropped down into the quarter (I guess the mast completly went down). I was reading one of the past posts on replacing the antenna and read that there is a nut or grommet that goes on the shaft mating with the quarter grommet. This did not come with the new antenna and when I called the dealer he said it wasn't available. The part is listed as # 2 on the scketch the dealer sent me. Purchased the coupe about a month ago and its the little things that are driving me crazy. I also own a Buick Reatta which I thought was tuff to work on; but the Vette seems even worst. So far I tackled the Spark Plugs, Ignition wires, Distributer Cap and wires (4 plus hours) and have the skinned hands to prove it. This Forum has really been a help! Sure need that shop manual the Haynes manual just doesn't cut it!

I am not quite sure which you are replacing... the mast .... or the whole antenna assembly. Yes the antenna recesses down into the quarter panel and there is a gromet and a upper nut.

Default Lost Antenna

I am replacing the entire unit. The upper rubber grommet is there but the lower nut is missing and I was told it is unavailable.

Why buy a new unit if just the nut broke? Call Vette2vette and see if they have one.

On my vette, the upper piece broke, and the antenna fell inside, hanging from the strap.

I may have one of those upper nuts I will have to check tomorrow. I replaced my antenna mast with one from the local dealer and it come with a new nut... funny you get that (unavailable nut) when you buy a GM antenna mast

If I still have it I will drop it in the mail for you.

Sorry I looked and I must have thrown the mast nut away when I ditched the old antenna mast. I can't believe they didn't give you a new mast nut with a new antenna assembly... they have too... it holds the mast into the antenna assembly. Maybe we are not talking about the same part. The mast nut is kind of rounded and has 2 flat sides on it and you need a special tool to remove it. If this is it you can get one by purchasing a new mast... try the aftermarket masts at the parts stores they are around $15.00... I know its a lot for just 1 nut but if you need it then you need it. Try in the parts section here on the forum there are a few guys parting out C-4s and you may be able to get one here.

I think he's talking about the big plastic nut that threads on from underneath to ths piece that actually is exposed up top.

Thanks for all those who tried to help me on the missing threaded bushing! I did have a success , called the GM Dealer I usually deal with and he found an orderable part # 10067979. For those who may want to replace an antenna or need this part be made aware it was removed from the antenna kit about 5 years ago. Oh by the way the cost of the part is $2.52!!
