Default Kirban Throttle Switch

Hi all -

I was drooling through an Eckler's catalog and they have this "Kirban throttle Performance Switch" listed.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience or comments.

Thanks

quote from Eckler's website:

"The switch plugs in line with the throttle position sensor to deliver the optimum and maximum amount of fuel and timing advance whenever you give your Corvette at least 60% throttle."

sounds to me like all that it does is bring WOT position to 60% of the accelorator movement; in other words less pedal movement = more throttle. No gain in actual performance...

aero is dead on right.

Just press the gas pedal a bit harder... it's the same net effect.

That's what I needed, it's off the list -

Now I can drool over something else I can't live without (I'm not sure what it is yet, but I'm sure I'll find it!)

I'll make you a deal on any "performance" parts from Ecklers. Give me half the money, I'll kick you in the nuts and we'll call it even.

Seriously if you want some real performance parts just start asking questions here. All the "bolt on" parts are typically useless.

I've done some things in the past where I'd ask if you make house calls

The reason I was curious about it is that I added an R259 on one of my bikes and got better response and power immediately and thought that this thing might do the same or similar.

That's why I asked - the car's cost me enough without adding "Snake Oil" parts to it.

How true. If you read the ads on the different parts and how much hp they all add to your car, for about $300 you can get about 500 extra hp.

Couple of years ago, people in our club were "modding" their c5's with all this crap, talking how much more hp they had. Just before the all Corvette drags, they had them all dyno'ed, getting the extra edge, you know. They were shocked! Each one had spent about $400 or more on all the catalog stuff, adding up the hp. Almost all their numbers were not far off of stock.

I know because I understand how the throttle and computer system in the car works. If I want the car to go wide open throttle I'll just put my foot to the floor and save $140. Perhaps the faster acceleration you are feeling is due to your lighter wallet?

Nathan, want me to handle your light work? I see no reason for you to come all the way out here... I am sure bmwgsa will be over at the house sometime, I can take care of the nut kicking right then and there.

This stuff is pure snake oil... there is some theory rooted in truth, but the fact of the matter is the designers are trying to sell the non-computer-controlled-engine-savvy owners into thinking a couple of trick mods will make their cars faster.

An interesting parallel. Several years ago, I was having a discussion regarding audio systems... this kid was like "mine is louder than yours!". I had my system pounding (alpine head unit) at about 20 on the volume dial. I went over to listen to his POS, and at about 9 his was "louder than mine". BFD, I went back to mine, turned it up to 30 and it sounded great, loud as hell. Went back to his, and at 12 or so, the distortion kicked in and it went to crap in an instant.

As I explained to him, just cause it gets louder faster, does not mean its better.

The Kirban Throttle Switch is that cheap stereo's volume control.

Just like the IAT mods that pop up on eBay... new gaskets that get you 40hp... mufflers worth 30hp... 50hp air intakes... for the most part, scams...

Promises, promises....

If I need a kick in the nuts, I'll just take the car to the dealer. That comes with a kick in the nuts AND a reaming in one package

Its been pretty much proven on this forum which mods work and which ones don't...........this one fits in the "don't" category.
