Its an 87
Also, it has the third brake light and a black belt line, small clues

All 86-90 coupes have the CHMSL on the b-pillar, and all 84-90 have the black BSM.
So why do you determine its an `87?

1990 was the first year for Competition Yellow (code 53).
The one in the picture is definitely Comp Yellow.

Chromabase Code 53 (B9058k) 1990 Competition Yellow is the correct paint for this ZR-1 to duplicate the original color and photosensitivity characteristic.

Notice the front fenders. They are wider on the ZR1.
My vote is this is a ZR, S W E E T

the front fenders on a ZR1 are the same size as a normal C4, only the rears were widened by a total of 3 inches for the whole back side of the car

I feel so honored to have my car as one of the pics that you appreciate so much! I haven't seen that pic in a while since I've gotten the new HRE's on. I take that back. I've got a 20 x 30 inch framed photo hanging up somewhere in my house!
That shot was taken in the dead of winter in NJ which explains all the barren trees in the background. Sad thing is that my tint is no longer that dark since I would have been pulled over left and right for not conforming to the legal tint shade. It looked so sinister with the limo tint.

Funny, the front flares do look a little wide.
Maybe a Euro Spec like this one...
I always did love the full flare effect. Especially the way the rear tapers at the lower quarter.
