Default My First Vette

Well, I went and picked up my first Vette on Fryday (Nov 19th) . It's a white 1989 Coupe that has seen better days. While the motor and body look great the insides are trashed. It needs a little work soon to make me happy about driving it all the time. I picked up new U-joints today for the half shafts in the back and I am also looking for some shocks. I hope to get them all on next weekend.. After that I think it will all be look and feel.

The car looks like it has had no mods done to it except for the MSD. Not really a mod but I was glad to see it there. Great power at all ranges but I wish it wold rev a little higher.

I have uploaded a picture of the car but I am waiting on it to be approved. When it's approved you will be able to see it here, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/phot.../ppuser/172552 along with a picture of my mom and her two 79s.

Now, you really don't think I would post all this without a couple questions so here they are.

1. Can I put headers and new pipes on this and still pass the smog test here in the Dallas Texas area? While I want to do a few things on the car to make it better I still want to be able to drive it in town without problems.

2. Where can I find a list of the Service Parts Identification codes? I would like to know what was on this car when it rolled off the lot for the first time.

Here is what in on the tag in the center console lid.

AC3
AR9
AS8
BGR
84P
CC3
C68
DL8
D3X
D74
D9B

QA1
UQ4
UU8
U52
VO1
V73
XAU
1AY
1SB
1OU
24S
73I
739

Paint\Clear Coat is WA-19x67 U9567 732

I can't read the x number on the picture that I have... It looks like it might be a 9, 3 or an 8. Depends on how you look at the smuge on it.

I got here as fast as I could. I think though that my next Rocket is going to be painted like my car with the Corvette Logos on it. Should make for some intresting pictures with it standing next to the car.

you can get "approved" exhaust pieces,or intake for that matter, aftermarket.just read the fine print and make sure the parts have the fittings for o2 sensors etc.most of the new stuff will have smog stuff available.
enjoy the new ride

If your engine is in tune it will pass a sniffer emissions check with LT headers, and a modern hi-flow cat but not sure if TX has any visual checks that might be more restrictive as there are not CARB legal LT headers to date.

One of your first free mods (worth 10chp) should be to remove the frisbee from the front of your water pump pulley. Just put a lock washer under each bolt head and attach the pulley to the water pump flange.

Enjoy your Vette.

A couple buddies and I were talking about what that was used for... We could not see ANY use of any kind... What is there for? They had to have a reason to put a chunk of metal on the motor like that.

Is that what most 89 owners have done? Not that I dont trust you I just like to hear it from more than one person.

Welcome to the forum. I'm new to the Corvette too. Always wanted one, from when I can remember.

I have a '92 Polo coupe. It has had reasonable care, as the paint and interior are acceptable for a car with 94K on it. The only thing I have done is have the tires replaced, other than that it really doesn't need anything. Have to recheck this coming Spring. Never know may find something.
