Default electronic heater module?

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to the C2 forum, and with my experience there, i expect you can help my sister. She has an 88 (i think--it is supposedly the only year they used an electronic heater module in the dash (digital control??). Anyway, her's crapped out...where can she (or can she) get a replacement...new, aftermarket, rebuild...it doesn't matter... vette.
Thanks, gary (bowtieboy)

Contemporary Corvette (link on my site) has used ones and maybe new ones too.

If it's the unit that controls the blower speed in the heater box. I have one from an '86. I can send a pic. If it is what I think it is, it has some fins and a molded in wire connector. It screws to the heater box. I can send a pic. Email to renoman@prodigy.net and I'll reply with a pic.

Electronic Air was used from '85 to '96 (and is pretty much the same whether it's in a Vette, Pontiac, Buick, Caddy, etc) - there's nothing unique about the '88. There are 3 components that make it work: The dash assembly, programmer and blower module. If you post the symptoms, we can help you figure out which one isn't working.

Wasn't the '85 manual control and the '86 manual with optional electronic? Seems I've never seen an '85 electronic and was recently informed that the '86 had optional electronic controls.

It's always been an option - as far as I know since the '85, but I haven't any reason to look it up. In any event, if you have the option, fairly easy to diagnose, just need to know the symptoms.

Thanks Guys,
I think the control is for the heat. I'm meeting her in AZ for turkey tomorrow and will check with her, but i am pretty sure that is correct.
Thanks, gary.
ps - I am certain she said it was the only year it was offerred in the c4 (but that may not mean anything )

When you get the specifics let us know, but often, no heat is a plugged core.

Another great place for used parts is www.vette2vette.com
They are a Forum sponsor. According to Mike Antonick the C68 Electronic Air Conditioning Control was first offered in 1986 and continued through 1993. In 1994 it became a part of Preferred Equipment Group One which included C68, UU8 Bose with cassette, and AC3 Power Driver Seat. This option group continued on in 1995 and 1996.
Good luck with helping her out and get back to us with the details. Enjoy the turkey!

FWIW, Electronic Air Conditioning Control (RPO C68 in '86) was not listed as an option for 1985 in the Corvette Black Book.

Oops. Missed the excellent comment by corvetteronw. :bb

Don't know about all the year to year stuff-but I have an 87-and while sometimes the digital display (just on the temp. setting blower speed ) goes crazy or out completely all functions still work. I know from past experience that it was caused by dirty connections, time for me to clean mine again and although I hate puiing it-it's fairly simple, last time I used Q tips and rubbing alcohol-this time I'll give it more attention. Good luck and let us know please.

Mine is an 87 as well with the digital controls and it bugs out once in a while, goes to the beat of the music in the car! Thanks for the tip on cleaning the connectors.

I bought my heater controls from ebay and they were slightly used but in good condition. I think I paid $60 shipped to me. Ebay is great, all you need is patience and you will find the deal for the part you need...

There is a heater control for an 87 in the parts section!

Sorry I've not respoded...have been out of town.

Anyway, that's it...it is an electronic control (button contacts) that she needs. Some Vette shop in NC told her they only used it one year??? Sounds like that may be incorrect.

Thanks to all for the input.
