very good question.

The 92-96 Vettes (93-97 Z28/Transams and 94-96 Impala, Caprice, Roadmaster and DeVille) all shared the LT1.

The LT1 has a distributor called the OptiSpark.

In 1995, GM updated the OptiSpark.

However, the early OptiSparks are very easily damaged by too much water. They are located low on the front engine cover, between the crank and cam shafts. The waterpump is above it, the pump has a tendency to leak coolant onto the OptiSpark. Water is bad, coolant is toxic to OptiSparks!

If you want to clean your motor, use some Simple Green on the stained areas and using a VERY low pressure hose and a scrubber, GENTLY and CAREFULLY rinse off the Simple Green. Keep water off the front of the engine. The motor should be warm, but not hot.

That should work great!

Default I use.....

Try using a good cleaner without using water. Water usually gets in the wrong place. Don't take a chance. Spray a cleaner on and wipe it off and foreget the hose.

Dont be so worried about the 95/96 Opti's. They can take a little water. Pre 95 is another story. If it gets wet you will be changing it. Do a search for opti and read up.

Do your best to clean the front of the engine with Simple Green spray and rags on your 94. The rest of the engine and engine compartment can get wet like any other engine. Just be carefull around electrical items not to direct the spray directly at them.

just cover the opti and use Simple Green...

Simple Green is some awesome stuff... spray on, wipe off...

Personally I would never hose down an engine... but I know some do so often.
