ok check engine light question....
some days i will start my 87, and the check engine light is on....car runs like crap....i shut it off and viola, its out, and it runs and idols good for a while, but then i step on it, and make it go, and it does go, but then it seems like it chokes itself...it goes like a bat out of hell for a few seconds and then boggs down, then , on comes the light.....so i get the code key out , check the codes, and i usually get a 34, and a 43, or 1 or the other, or both...so can some one help me to narrow the problem down, is it for sure my maf or, is something causing the maf to produce a code...any help would be cool...thanks, joe
Remove the air cleaner assy, start the engine and watch the MAF sensor wires as someone shuts off the engine. The sensor wires should glow bright red for a few seconds. If so, replace the MAF power relay; if not eplace the MAF burn off relay.
If that does not fix the code 34 issue replace the MAF.
Code 43 is the the knock sensor not passing the ECM test when you go to heavy throttle. It's likely that this code will go away when you fix the MAF issue. If not come back here.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to disconnect the battery for a few minutes if you do replace the relays (BTW there cheap) to clear the codes.
