I just got back home tonight from an 800 mile road trip and al I can say is... WOW... I love my vette.
I have never driven a 150k mile car at just under a C-note for 200 miles before... Ive got one word "SMOOTH". This car amazes me with its ride, power, handling, and speed... what a pleasure to drive. And to top it all off I got a min of 25 mpg at that speed... I love my vette.
For all my performance modifications I still get close to 30 MPG on the interstate.
One of my favorites is to drive up the Cumberland Plateau on I-40. Set the cruise control on about 75 MPH in 6th gear and just let her float. All the semi's fall over in the right lane and all the cars have to downshift just to maintain speed. Should something happen that requires me to slow down it's no problem, just drop it about three gears and put the hammer down. While everybody else is struggling to maintain a speed the Vette can accelerate straight up hill like it's nothing.
That's one thing I'll say for the 2.59's in my auto trans '95. It cruises effortlessly at 80mph. Could do it all day long, 24/7 and not break a sweat. RPM's just loafing along at that speed.
I have driven both the 2.59 and 3.07. The 2.59 is much nicer for highway cruising. I have the 3.07 and though it isn't bad, I still feel like I need one more gear when I am cruising around 80 or faster. That said, acceleration is night and day between the two.
Yep the C4 is great for highway cruzin as well as driving the twisites and going down the 1/4 mile.
In about two weeks I'll be making the 7hr drive to OH. The Vette would make the trip with no pit stops, but not the driver.
I wouldn't want to drive any other car on a long trip. With the A4 and 2.59s she cruizes just below 1,700rpm at 65mph and when a little more power is needed 3rd gear brings it on.

I hear ya Bud! Over the holiday I put about 650 blissfull miles on mine and loved every bit of it. Most of my cruising was at 85 mph with a 21.5 mpg fuel burn. Just can't beet that fuel economy with the power we have in these Vettes. It's especially appreciated when stomping on that gas peddle to pass slower traffic. Pretty friggen dramatic!

I've never had a car I enjoy as much on road trips as my C4. Put some good tunes in the CD, set the cruise and enjoy every mile. Since I make several 1,000 mile (round) trips a year, when I can take the Vette, I actually look forward to the drive!
I've driven my C4 down to southern california and back and it's great ... with 18 miles a gallon and over 185K miles ... I can't complain a bit ... I usually drive it to my fathers ranch which is about 130 miles and I can say I dont want to get out of the car when I get there, I just want to keep on driving... hopefully next summer I'll be able to drive her out to Miami as it's always been my dream since I bought her.
my 93 has 3.08 gearss, and absolutely love cruising in it in Europe. I have driven it across Germany and through Switzerland with the cruise control set at 135 MPH, with the occasional speedburst to 150 +, and it still gave me a decent 17 MPG. All the while with a female passenger on board who was able to sleep comfortably while the CD provided the tunes. The car is no different ride wise at 150 than it is at 55 mph. I have the dynomax mufflers and exhaust system and goodyear GSC's and it is still a fairly quiet ride...I look forward to getting a new set of tires and some new shocks and see how it rides next spring/summer.
as for most of you have cruised, what kind of tires do you have on your cars?

That's because you have an A4.
I have 3.45's and sixth is way too tall for anything but maintaining speed.
Try to speed up or slow down in sixth and all you do is...maintain speed!
To address the original post: the C4 makes an amazingly composed and serene highway mile-eater. I took mine on a 3000 mile trip soon after I got it and every minute was pure pleasure.
I very quickly got the distinct impression that we wouldn't encounter any situation that the car couldn't handle.
It's a very capable automobile.

I still have GSC's, but will go to Khumo Ecsta MX's when the time comes, which won't be long for my rears at least. A lot of guys like the Khumo's, best tire for the money.
