Default New Tire Time

It's time for Baby (88 coupe) to get new shoes. I've been to the Tire Rack and they have Dunlop sport 8000's and Goodyear hp ultra plus, but I'd love to get my hands on some Firestone Firehawks. Too bad they are discontinued. They do hav 245/50 zr 16's. My question is can I put them on my 255/50-16 rims. I'm also open to your experiences with the tires you have. My main concern is wet traction. Any comments?

Dunlops suck, I had them on my car and no traction when it was dry out(I had the 315's) They wear out too quickley, get BFG or Michelin.

I like my Bridgestone Potenza's. I had Dunlop 8000s and did not have the same wear or traction experience the other poster had, but I had more road noise with the Dunlops than I now have with the Potenzas.

You can't go wrong with Michelins or BFG but they might cost more. A lot of Vette owners report good experiences with Kumho, which I think cost less.

Good luck.

My dunlop 8000s did NOT last. Period. Seems like they were bald when I got home from the tire store. They also really don't grip that well. And they are "squishy" in corners. I hate them! However, I love my Kumhos...

ive had Goodyear, dunlop, and kumho. Kumhos have the best wet traction of all of them.

I havent accidentally lost traction in the wet with the Ks once. On purpose, maybe

I had a set of GY Eagle Ultra HP Plus (275/40-ZR17) installed about a month ago and am more than pleased with them.

I've not really pushed them yet in rain but dry traction is outstanding on street & strip and they are smooth at highway speeds. This month I should have a chance to check out snow traction.

I chose this tread design besause it closely resembled that of my old GY Eagles which had great traction all around with excellent tread wear.

Get the Potenzas. Excellent handling wet or dry. I've got 34K on mine and the fronts have another 20K left, the backs still have at least 5K left or maybe 2K and lots of burnouts

Has anyone had any experience with Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S? They are rated at the top in the comparison page on Tire Rack's site for traction, noise...

I have falken 275/40 zr 17s in the rear. They are an exellent tire for the money. I have had them for about 15000 miles and they are hardly worn. And I like doing burnouts from time to time.
