Anyone besides me have trouble determining where the front of the car is? I've actually put the nose of the car under the one in front of me a number of times. Lucky for me so far the car is low enough that I've never made contact with anything. Did it again yesterday. Moved the car to a covered area during a rain shower. When I got out there was no more than 3/4" between the front of my car and the truck I parked behind. Been wondering if I could mount sensors on the front like they put on the back of some vehicles that beep at you when you're getting too close to something?
Have some one stand at the edges and set that position in your mind look for a visual reference off a point on the hood to know when an object is close to that relative position.
I owned a C3 some years ago, and I got over what you are talking about then. Now with the hatch window that ends less than a foot from the back bumper, I can't get over the fact that it looks like I've backed up as far as I can, and then get out of the car and find I've got another 3 feet to go.

If I have a parking block to view I'm okay, but if there is no block visible I still tend to 'overpark' at times. Ah well, at least 'overparking' is better than 'oversteering!
The C4 is very unique in many many ways, and that hidden long front nose is one of them. How about when you park, just stop 3 feet under where you think you'd want to stop, that way you'll be parked perfect.
A friend of mine years ago bought a brand new 85', went to his friends place of business to show everyone the car, (proud new owner, all excited to show off his new Corvettte) and as he was parking slammed the nose right into the brick wall of the building! He didn't have the car more than an hour! That story has always stuck in the back of my head as to how 'easy' is could be to bang up the front.
Be careful, I had a guy back into my front end, a quarter size dent cost me $800 big ones!
Underpark, and you problem will be solved.

You guys must be some kind of short if you can't see the C4 hood. Like I said the Camaro is the real bastard, all you see there are the wipers. Sure the Vette eventually disappears from view but all I can say is that you just get a feel for it. What I've found is that the car is really so short that it'll fit just fine in the spot even if you don't have it "just perfect" front to back, it's still easily in the spot and nobody can complain.
