Too old to drive
Some stupid old bag almost smashed into my poor Vette today. I’m driving down the street doing way under the speed limit because its a school block and there’s always kids crossing, when a red Toyota pull out of a parking lot not looking before she comes out. I had to slam on the brakes so hard the abs came on. I stopped 2 inches from hitting her. She just stood there just staring, looking very confused as to where she was. I rolled down the window and left her have it. Finally she slowly (and I mean ssssllooowwllly) pulled away, being stopped directly in front of me, so I can go. Being so mad I floored it doing a burnout for a good 10 seconds while still cursing out the dumb old prune. Just like there’s an age where you’re too young to drive, I’m proposing there be an age when you’re too old to drive. Someone has to get them off the road before they hurt or kill someone.
ok. i'm done

Let's see, you're 19 and already complaining about older drivers. Get used to it. There are a ton of lousy drivers out there from 16 to 90 and although age sometimes is a factor, just as often it can be inattention, over aggressiveness, distractions, or a myriad of other reasons. Stay calm and always drive defensively.
If you lived down here, you get use to crap like that. Gotta drive defensivly all the time. I love the ones you pull beside and all you can see is sivler/blue hair with eyes peaking out between the steering wheel spokes. I floor it and get the heck outta his/her way.

That says it all
Every time you get your driver's license renewed you should have to take a basic driving skills test. Some way to test your alertness, vision, etc. It wouldn't be considered discrimination because a young person could fail it just as easily as an old person.
Glad you avoided an accident. Whenever I drive my C4 here in senior city capital - Western PA - I drive as if I am on a motorcycle. Never assume anything. So many times folks, not just seniors, pull out in front of my Corvette for no reason. But whenever I drive my daily driver, no one seems to pull this mysterious maneuver.

In the Las Vegas/Henderson area of Nevada, I believe we are the rolling-stop/no-look exiting from Casino parking lots capitol of the world. Drivers of ALL ages just don't believe in stop signs. Young, middle aged, old folks just haul butt through stops. I've seen as many as three cars roll on through a stop while I've been sitting on another corner waiting my turn. I keep an eye on the car BEHIND me when I come to a stop sign. People seem offended that I've come to a full stop! They come barreling up behind me, yakking on cell phones or looking at the side of the road and suddenly their eyes get large when they realize I'm not moving. I am a courteous, defensive driver and pride myself on it. I'm 71 and I'll put my driving skills up against anyone. The one thing I DO NOT do, is allow myself to get caught up in road rage and retalitory driving exhibitions. My credo is, get where I'm going no matter how long it takes, just so I get there safely. And I drive, knowing that sooner or later, my car and life are going to be at risk because of the inattention of some folks. I don't judge or classify other people's driving habits when I'm behind the wheel. I'm just looking out for NUMBER 1!
Always run with you daytime running lamps on.
It is proven to reduce accidents. Like motorcycles, sometimes Vettes are so low that people, especially seniors or vision impared, just dont see them. They are looking for larger vehicles and we blend into the background. The light attracts eye attention and reduces the background blend effect by like 60%. Thats why Chevrolet makes most all, if not all, of their vehicles these days with automatic D.R. lamps.
Glad you and your Vette or OK!

I’ve had a couple close calls before, but not this close. I stopped seriously so close that if I was going 1mph faster, I would be posted pictures of my smashed car. Sorry if I offended any of the older folks early. I just got home and needed to vent.

And it has nothing to do with age... I got schooled by a lady at the last AutoX event I went to and she had to have been 60+. In fact she was in the top 3 fastest on the track so everyone (except 2 others) got owned!!! Age isn't the problem.
When behind the wheel... people need to drive, not worry about dinner or a cell phone call. It all comes down to simple common courtesy.
