I have the Hella housings and they are very much worth getting. They come with a decent H4 halogen bulb, but you can upgrade that to any of the good bright white bulbs available. There is a Sylvania Silverstar H4 bulb that works great or the APC Xenon bulb. either one offers a higher wattage on both low and high beam.
The Hella lamps have a beam pattern that has sort of a flat top to the upper portion of the light beam and part of the beam is focused toward the right side which helps illuminate the shoulder. It works great in fog or in rain at night. There is very little glare on low beam. The high beam pattern is more of a focused beam going forward and makes the high beams more like a driving light.
Started with the stock ones and then went with cheap Ebay halogens. Then went with Sylvania silverstars and then with Hella's. They are the best but I did have to up the headlight fuse. Its a great upgrade. You can't see where the headlight starts or ends, it light up the entire road.
I challenge anyone on here to know more about headlights for our C4's than me....
The Hella headlight (Get the e-spec, e means european) housings with removable H4 bulbs is a welcome upgrade over the stock headlights...
DO NOT GET STUPID BLUE-TINT HID SIMULATOR BULBS. The blue tinting detracts from your light output during non-highbeam operation (usually those bulbs only have only half of the bulb, and just the low beam filament covered by the blue tint, thank God).
There are slightly better headlight housings out there. CIBIE and Bosch make a better housing. Better in terms of less separation between low and hi beams, which is what you need for our low-ride height Corvette. Too much separation means when you aim your lows, your highs are pointed to the trees. Or if you aim your highs, your lows are pointed right into the ground.
I dont know who directly sells the CIBIE or Bosch housings, but if you call Daniel Stern Lighting he can get you what you need.
Better yet, rewire your headlights with 10 gauge wiring and relays coming right off the battery. I also added Narva clear 100/130 watt bulbs. Lets say the lighting blows my 04 BMW's HID system out of the water.
Ive been thru 4 headlight combos including REAL HID which I didnt like..
I agree w/ dizwiz24. I have the Hella lenses (DOT spec, unfortunately) w/ Hella 90/130 bulbs wired w/ 10ga thru relays right from the alternator. These lights are great. I never worry about out-driving the lights anymore. My dad liked them so much I had to do his car too. I have noticed the big "spread" between the lows and highs - I might need to try the other brands and give the Hellas to my other car.
I did have the "Matrix" brand 100watt bulbs and they were terrible. Even with the higher wattage, they were worse than the stock lights - dangerous actually.
I did the Hella's last month. I went with the E spec non DOT models. I also used high output bulbs. The whole set-up was around $110. I'm pleased with the results. I don't believe you can buy the Ciebe lights anymore in the US. I did massive web research before I bought the Hellas. I recommend them.

I, too, went with Hella's...after pulling the Wagners and trying the SilverStars.
I got 80W/100W H4's (which I have in two other vehicles and highly recommend).
BTW, it's not the bulb output that blinds oncoming drivers, it's the aiming of the headlamps!
I've run 80W or 90W lowbeams in my vehicles for 20 years and have had very few drivers flash me.
Good lighting makes nightime driving SO much better....

I have very few people flash at me with the 90/130s. The H4s have a sharp cutoff on the lows to prevent blinding others. I do however have too many people who do not lower their highs for me - at least until I flip MY highs, they catch on fast.

Lighter than what...?
They are heavier than the plastic-lensed Wagners, maybe a few ounces lighter than the all-glass SilverStars.
Good question...I'll have to weigh the Hella's if I ever take them out (like, to replace a broken unit).
BTW, don't overlook the junk yards for headlights. Several years ago my son and I were scouring one of the local yards for VW parts and came upon a Porsche that had a set of Cibie headlights. Since this car (924) had hide-away lights, the Cibie's were like new...not sandblasted.
Price at the check-out shed: $2 each.
Our C4's take a standard-size HL, so you may be able to find a good deal if you keep your eyes open.

I am not sure where Scorp is on this but I still have the link he put up on them. I did the same thing as C4cruiser. I use the Hella housings with the Silverstar bulb. I tried mine next to stock and the difference is incredible. I threw away the apc4 bulbs that came with it to use the brighter Silverstars. Since my headlights are properly aimed I never get flashed...
