while i was driving on a quiet road, someone called my cell phone... thinking i'd be able to shift and talk at the same time i decided to answer it. i figured out i wasnt too good with multi-tasking and stalled the car. when i turned it back on the gauges gradually dimmed in a matter of about 4 or 5 seconds. they are difficult to make out now, especially with the headlights on. can anyone offer any advice on how i should go about fixing this? btw, it's an 86' coupe.
I wish I could help you but I don't understand how that could be other than you may have hit the dimmer switch by accident. This is going to sound stupid and you prob have already checked it but... did you check the dimmer switch to make sure its on its full position?
Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.
There is a sensor on the dash that senses light and
adjusts the display brightness accordingly.
I dont know if it got knocked out of whack from the
stall or if it is just coincidence. Try lightly tapping to
see if there is a change in behaviour.. Good luck
I think you would have encountered this problem regardless of the stalling issue so don't kick yourself too hard, it was just a matter of bad timing. I agree that disconnecting the battery could help, it can cure many ills with these computer driven cars. Also, did you try to rotate your dimmer up and down and see if there are any changes in lighting? Perhaps a bad dimmer switch. Good luck!
also check the fuse in the fuse panel inside the passneger door. one night i was driving home and the whole panel went extremely dark. i had to use a pen light aimed at the light sensor to brighten the display so i could see how fast i was going....i don't recommend trying that....driving, shifting, and holding a pen light in the light sensor.....
