Default Stereo Options

My 91 Coupe has an aftermarket stereo, speakers and amp in it. The deck and the speakers are good but the amp is a piece o' crap $50 Wal-Mart special. It works fine, the problem is it sits up on the back deck behind the seat and it looks stupid, not mounted, wires coming out, etc. All things considered, I would prefer just to have the stock stereo and components, but I ahve to work with what I've got. Because of the complications involved in simply getting rid of the amp (wiring, etc.), my preference would be just to replace it with a) a better quality amp, and b) a smaller amp that can be mounted properly in a less visible location. Do any of you have any experience in placing an amp behind the driver's or passenger seat, or under the passenger seat (driver's seat is power - no room) or even possible in the storage comparttments oin the back deck. Also, any suggestion on a small, reasonably priced (ie not cheapo) anmp. Thanks. You guys are a wealth of information. I learn so much just from reading all the other posts.

Bah - sorry for all the typos above. All this frozen Canadian weather freezing my fingers off eh? It was -28 last night. At that temp. it's the same Celcius as Farenheit. That's damn cold!

I may have an extra amp laying around here... I only use Alpine amps so I am sure if I am not using it, it is prob too small for my needs. Let me look around and if I have an extra one laying around you can have it for free just pay the shipping.

Ok, sorry to get your hopes up... I looked around and for the life of me I can't seem to find my old Alpine 450 watt amp that I took out of my old truck. I do have this in my parts truck and have no use for it or the speakers. I have no idea if it works or the size of it but you can have it for free you just pay the shipping. The amp is a Coustic and the speakers are MTX terminator 8" (I think). Both these speakers and the amp are still in the truck, I bought this truck with a seized engine for parts so I have never had any power in the truck to test them.

my car has a manual passenger seat. I fit a pretty big mtx 5 channel under there. It puts out 65x4 @ 4 ohms and 500 for the sub @ 2 ohms. It's plent of power.

Why not put the entire sound system in the back of the car? That's where I have mine and with the carpeting laid down no one can tell what's there....Until I turn up the volume. 2 Amps, 12" sub,12 Disc CD changer and 15 band EQ

If you score some ¼" MDF from Home Depot or Lowes... you can build a small 'amp rack'. basically build a box that is no taller than the amp... and cut the top to match the top facing of the amp. This will give it a cool recessed look and hide all the wiring. You an also get a small 12v fan (similar to the ones in a computer case) for added ventilation. Over all this will give it a real nice custom look with very little investment.

Justardnck - sorry for the delayed response, I was away on Christmas holidays and didn't get your message until my return. Bought a new amp at a Boxing Day sale so if there is another forum member interested in your amp please go ahead. Thanks again for the offer though. Also, Hippiehead025, nope, my passenger seat is manual, power drivers and pasenger seat are different options. Thanks everyone for the suggestions - I'm gong to try and isntall the new amp under the passenger seat. Cheers.

Depending on where you would be shipping the stuff from, i might be interested in the subs and the amp. But if your too far away the cost of shipping quickly outweighs what its worth, even if its free!

thnx

I aggree, The amp hsas been claimed by another member but if he chooses to not take it you are next in line. The speakers are still up for dibbs.

Remember I have never heard any of this stuff so I am unsure if it is any good at all.

It will be shipping from Florida 33470
The speakers are prob 18"X18"X10" each and (Iam guessing) 20lbs each.
I have a UPS store near by so they will go UPS.

ok, im not interested in the speakers then - not worth the shipping. Maybe the amp tho, since it only weighs a few lbs. I remember using one of those amps in the mid 90's...they sucked for sub amps but were just great for mid/highs. Maybe I'll put it in my dad's beater 78 oldsmobile beater, for SPL Drag...

I'm sorry Snoop I already have it boxed up ready to go for another member. I have a lot of amps laying around here because I used to be very into the stereo thing so let me look around some and if I find one I will be sure to give you first Dibbs.
