Here's some dealer brochures and other pics of what the world had to offer in 1983. The Corvette was definitely ahead of its time.

Other than the wheels, is there any difference between THE '83 and an '84 Vette?

Toyota; Rarer then a Ferrari, less common than a Porsche.
Wow, they must have had some serious crack in japan in the `80s.

"...if you ever see one, it'll be a fleeting glimpse. Zero to 60mph in 8.3 seconds from a twin cam 2.8...."
8.3 seconds!?... I'd have time to catch two glimpses and a short nap in between.

Indeed, the early-80s was a bad time for automobile styling! It's amazing how dated some of those cars look today (especially the stang - fortunately it got much better looking during the late 80s).
For performance and styling during this time, the C4 had zero competition from American, Japan and dare I say even German carmakers (Ok - you can probably argue the 911, but it was never my thing). You had to look at Italy for anything that even comes close to the C4.
I gotta admit, that 3rd Gen Camaro looks sharp, though...

I've said it before....The C4 Vette was the first REAL world class Vette. I think the Z28 had 175hp back in 1983 and then came out with a HO (high output) 190 hp motor. They were pretty good handling cars, (not near the Vette) I actually had an '84 Z28. The C4 was ahead of it's time..why do you think it lasted for so long before going to the C5??
