Default Shock replacement decision help.

1 of the rear shocks on my car is leaking and i am looking to replace at least the rear shocks. My car has 30,000 on it and drives great. I have the adjustable suspension stuff and it seems to work fine even though i can't really tell any differences when i move the switch. My questions are if the fronts look fine (no visible leaking) should i bother replacing them? If the actuators all seem to be working should i bother replacing them. ($$$$) Is there that much difference if i just replace all 4 with the non-adjustables? That option doesn't really thrill me but neither does replacing over $800 in actuators when they crap out. Just looking for some advice.

Thanks, Tim

Default You would be giving up an option....

But if you are willing go give up an option, a set of Bilsteins go for $74.99-$79.99 each. These are good quality shocks and can be purchased thru www.ecklers.com or Zip Products or Corvette central. Or, replace with what they came with. Its your choice.

If you can't tell the difference, then something is wrong.
If you don't need to keep the adjustable option, a set of standard shocks will perform nicely.
Oh, and replace all four at the same time.

I read somewhere that the front shocks don't make much difference in handling on a C4. I replaced my front shocks when the fluid all leaked out and noticed no difference whatsoever. I went from OEM to Edelbrock. When I got around to replacing the rear, so they would match, I could tell something was different. Not necessarily better, but different.

If I were you, for all the money that's involved, I would replace or rebuild the rear and leave the front alone.

I think the rule of thumb is what you do to one end you do to the other. I am a KYB guy myself.

The big question is.... did the previous owner remove the bulb from the DIC when they came upon a problem.

You can rebuild the shock through bilstein. And shock do deteriorate with age, not just miles.
