Hey Gang;
I took her out again today on the Sunrise Hwy. heading East towards the Moriches on Long Island. She has been sitting for a couple of weeks, and the weather cleared, so I figured, might as well take advantage and let her juices flow. Car performs so effortlessly, it is amazing. Cruising about 84-89, then when I get a stretch, I open her up to about 115, and then I "hit it," car whips out to about 133 and that's when I wish I had just a tad more *****. She didn't even break a sweat; just went back down to cruisen, and purring and looking for more WOT. Put about 44 miles on her, and back into the garage with her winter coat.
Question: I have Borla cat-back, hi-flo cat, Hooker 2149, AFPR, no frisbee, air foil, and the Vortex Rammer CAI. If I install the 3:54 diff. (group sale on the other thread), will I lose top end???????
I took my 86 coupe out yesterday, id had been weeks since ive driven it. She was getting only 10 mpg around town! I live out in the sticks, with no highway availiable to me quickly, so I decided to drive to Louisville. Slowly, after about 20 miles, my MPG started going up! I was getting happier, as the MPG guage went up to finally 14.5.... not a whole much better. But about average for a gas guzzling 86. Maybe it isnt average, Im not sure. I am really used to my LT1, as I owned a 92 vert for about 5 years before I bought this 86 just only 3 months ago. Please, somone tell me if I should expect more than 14.5 Mpg.
Anywayz, it was nice to take her out. It really didnt feel like it wanted to stay around 55-60 mph. It felt like I was going 30. I constantly found myself up to 80-90 effortlessly. An L98 sure feels different than a LT1. Not too much different, just noticeable.
yeah Joe you will feel a noticable difference in topend decrease.but more hp and higher rpms will bring back that lost topend mph. just ask yourself what you want.the 3.54's will wake it up in the 1/4 mile.but probobly kill topend by 10mph or so.not much sacrifice to drop a few tenths in the quartermile.you will still hit 130mph plus with ease JOE even with the 3.54's and 3.73 wont' be hard to hit 130 either.

OK. I'll bite..... My 86 getts 20-24 MPG on the open road depending on conditions. Around town is 15-18. After the cats are "replaced" (don't tell Bogus) I hope to see an improvment. -JRC-

Yes you will loose some on top end... but at 150+mph does that matter? What you loose up top is more than gained with off the line punch. I'd get the gears myself... but that is my opinion.
Snoopdan,
My 87 (stock exhaust) gets 23+ mostly highway. If you let the car idle a long time, you are seeing the effects of all that zero mpg in your reported average. Next ride, hit the reset button on the info switch panel after you get started, and you will get a better picture of your on road MPG.
