To get used to your Corvette? This 96 LT4 is my first Vette, I've had other decently performing cars but nothing like this.

I took it out today because I figured it needed a little run time from sitting about three weeks. Anyway, every time I drive it I get all nervous and shaky, and heart starts beating quickly. Nothing like heart attack time but a noticeable faster beat.

I suppose once winter passes and I can drive it on a more regular basis maybe that will all go away with driving experience.

I'm starting to wonder if this one is too much for a first time Vette owner.

Nah, you'll get used to it. I had the same thing with my (then) stock '95, and I used to race drag and stock cars. Soon it'll just become controlled chaos, then you'll start thinking, "Damn, how can I make this thing faster?" It's the obsession, we all have it.....

Oh, and this part? It just sounds like normal love/lust!

All you need is more seat time!! You get used to the power after a while, and as was mentioned earlier, you'll crave more. It sounds like you have respect for the car's power, you'll be fine. I've had my LT4 for about 2 years and haven't lost respect for it's power yet. It's when you lose that respect that you can find yourself in trouble. Enjoy your 'Vette!!

I need to go somewhere and learn how to do performance driving correctly. Mostly I'm just cutting loose on straight stretches. I want to be able to turn off the ASR with the confidence I'd know what to do in a squirrelly.

Where in central PA can guy for something like this?

I thought I was the only one who felt like that. Guess not. I get all nervous and excited every time I get in and start it up. Feel like a high school boy going on his first date. It's been 3 months and I still feel that way. Must be love.

An autocross will certainly teach you a lot. If there are any vette clubs in your area, look into them. They will probably have a driving instruction day in the spring. Then do an autocross. If you lose it, you only spin out and dont hurt anyone or anything. Thatll improve your driving skills and build your confidence. Pretty soon you will be looking for more power as stated above.

A couple of weeks for me.

If you want to take your appreciation of the car to a whole new level (or renew it if it wears off), do a track day. Corvettes are okay on the street, but really shine on a road course.

I'm not sure where in PA you can go, but in the Phoenix, AZ area, there is a school called Bondurant, School of High Performance Driving. I took the class and it is outstanding. Check out their website.

Our club,Lancaster County Corvette Club runs 3-4 Autocrosses every year. You can check us out at lcccpa.com. Also if you want to go faster go to a "Friday at the track" at Summit Point WV. It's a blast.

You'll get to the point when you can't stand driving anything else.

Took me a while to get used to mine. Felt a little cramped, as I'm used to the huge cab and room of the 'rado. Now, I kind of feel like a kid climbing into his toy. Just love sittin' low and looking down that long shiny hood. Now as far as power goes, that's in the works.
