Default things to look for?

im looking at a 93' its got 130,000 miles on it, and im looking at a 87 w/60,000 mls. the 87 has a 6 spd conversion. the 93 is bone stock, but the paint is faded bad. and has a tear in the pass. seat. i was wondering is there anything else i should be aware of with these years. things that go wrong.? and which would be a better performance car. im am very familar with the lt1 (i own a 383 ati procharged 97 z) any advice would be appreciated.thanx

There are too are many things that "could" go wrong with either to list. The opti comes to mind first on the 93.

The Lt1 has stronger performance. But alot of miles and needs interior work and paint. And did I mention "opti" ?

The L98 has less miles but less perfomance and no opti. I personally would shy away from a 6 spd conversion. That would make me nervous.

Unless you are getting a real good deal on either you may want to keep on searching.

the 93 i can get for 6k, the 87 i can get for 5k. the opti isn't that bad as long as it doesn't get wet. delteq has made a coil pack conv. to fix that problem. im not looking for this to be a show car, its going to be a daily driver for a bit, then maybe a street/strip car, like my Z.

At those prices you should be able to enhance performance of either. Since the '87 has a roller cam and Al heads it will be rather simple to bring up to well over 300chp.

Think of your applications and if you want a stick or A4, the former being more fun but the latter better for the strip. Also look to the overall style and driving feel to see which one would be more satisfying.

For those prices you should do ok with either for a driver/strip car. Like 65Z01 states, you could spend a lil cash on either and enhance them well.

I wasn't totally bashing the opti, you just asked "is there anything else I should be aware of with these years?" and the opti came to mind. Based on the little information you provided I think I would personally go with the 87 if I knew for sure the "conversion" you spoke of was done right. It just sounds like it was better cared for and has half the miles and is 1k cheaper. But thats just my opinion based on the info provided. Good luck on your decision.
