The reason I know about the 6 speed console being different was because mine was cracked when I bought the car and a guy in the salvage yard assured me the one he had was correct. So, I bought it and guess what? Wrong part for an'88, but right part for a later 6-speed. The ride control switch came with the console panel. When I saw your post, a light came on ("check data storage"). I hope everything works out with the title check. Sometimes people "assemble" a vette from numerous models and years, and sell them as original cars with a dubious title. When you get the opportunity, you might take it to a knowledgeable 'vette guy in Bismark or Grand Forks and let him put it on a lift and then you can check numbers. A Helms manual is a must.
Thanks Don--I am a little worried as my dad cannot locate that RPO code tag. This has me wondering. Where is that thing suppose to be located on a C-4????
Is that something that I could order through a dealership with the VIN???

Hope this brightens your day-also hope it's correct. In Corvette An American Classic by Dan Lyons and John F. Katz, chapter 7, page 120,
in describing the 1988 vette- ZR-1 with the Lotus engine built by Mercury Marine in Oklahoma had exotic accessories including, a water cooled oil filter and a six-speed ZF transmission. You may in fact have a rare animal there (one I would go the extra mile and $$$ for) C/D's October 1988 cover, the editors captioned it "The Corvette from Hell".

On another note-just enjoy the ride-and hope the build sheet confirms the above.

For `88s, it's on the underside of the lid for the center storage compartment. The one that is located between the seats.
