Purchased my 94 in Florida and the dash pad is raised (from solar heat?) right up next to the windshield. Because of the steep windshield angle is the best solution having the windshield removed to get at it? Once exposed, is it a matter of glueing it down? Was it glued down at the factory? Thanks.
Sorry to hear of your problem. Had one similar on another GM product when I lived in New Orleans. It was caused by the intense heat beating into the car all day, everyday (some call that Paradise!! ). I tried resolving it by going through the whole process of removing the windshield, glueing the pad down, reinstalling windshield w/new gasket, all to no avail. The external heat blazing through the glass is more than the glue could withstand because of the warping of the dash pad. I wound up purchasing a new dash pad and replaced it. Sigh, ...big project all for naught!
This topic has come up recently. After a small straw pole, it was determined that 1994 dash pads are more prone to this kinda failure than earlier or later pads.
More accuratly, a trend developed that made us think this was possible.
I would not bother repairing it. Try getting a used pad from a 95 or 96. They seem less prone to this problem.
It is replaceable from inside the car, you just have to take the entire dash board apart.
Thank you for the advice. I have the dash partially disassembled now as the Delco/Bose Gold Series just got its CD unit and night lights replaced. If I continue disassembling the dash, does the rectangular passenger side airbag panel remain in place or does this need removal as well?
