Default tail lights?

How do I get to the rear tail lights to change a bulb?

How would I go about removing rear bumper cover to access the taillight lenses?

Remove the license plate and reach thru to the lights. Will need to FEEL your way to the 10mm bolts holding the lense in place, two per light, then just pop them out.

Mines and 87 also, I can't get my fat arms through the license area,
I usually get under the car and reach up-what a PIA, I always scrape my arms, even thought about making access through the cargo compartment. The vette might have been built around the heater core, but from there they built it around the tail lights.

Thats how I did it on my '88.
Wear long sleeves, you will scrape your forearms.

I had the inboard taillights changed to amber before I took it to England. Changing of the lenses and wiring was done thru the licence hole and inboard taillight hole.

JJfitter,

If you need to change the bulb on the otter tailight lense, do what the others have said about the screws for the inboard light, and when that's out, you can reach thru the hole and get to the outter lights. Heck, while your at it, change all the bulbs and save some time later on.

you would think that someone would have come up with a two piece replacement lense with screws so we could get to the damn bulbs on the earlier C4s. I think GM just built them that way to save a few cents per car on screws. I reminds me of the time around `74 or `75, when GM quit putting the drain plugs in the radiators on the Vega, & I think more recently they diden`t put transmission dip sticks in some of the Pontiac Grand Ams

remember, once you get the inside tail light off you can reach through that hole to get to the oputside one...makes it a little easier. Just took mine off the day before yesterday.

undefinedThe new Grand Ams don't have dipstick tubes probably because they use synthetic fluid that never needs changing. I was aFord Tech for many years and that's what they told us about the new Crown Vic's. I never did find out how to fill them up if they are rebuilt?

Call ET at home and have him come do it. It takes somebody with arms and fingers like his to do this job. Still not as bad as the heater core though.
