I Have A 1987 Convertible. The Shocks Are Showing Some Leakage......should I Go With The Standard Gm Shock Or Are There Some Aftermarket Stuff Someone Can Recommend......also.....chnaging The Shocks Doesnt Look Like To Much For An Amateir To Handle....or Should I Have It Done By A Garage....your Advice Is Appreciated.
P.s.....i Dont Race Or Slalom The Car....its Pretty Much A Drive And Show.

KYB is a good choice, about $130.00USC a set from www.tirerack.com.

it is easy to do, but you will need tools if any of the bolts are rusted on.

I just pu on KYBs on my '95 - cost about $132 shipped. So far, I am happy with them, but its hard to judge as the old shocks were original and not in too good shape.

Yes, one of the easiest jobs on your C4.
You'll probably need tools even if none of the bolts are rusted
...but only the most basic hand tools are required (except for a good torque wrench).
Do NOT let any garage/shop touch your Corvette. Get a Helms factory manual for your year and have fun!

KYB is an excellent choice and they should be available locally without having to order on the internet and pay customs duty. Summit Racing has them for $27.99 USD plus a small handling charge. You may have to contact them to find out about shipping costs to Canada and any customs duty.

I have heard that Bilstien will rebuild their shocks for a reasonable price. When my OEM Bilstiens wore out I replaced them with Edelbrock, but I'm not so sure that the Bilstiens weren't better. Having them rebuilt may be your best choice.

Shocks aren't hard to replace. It's a good starter project.

One of the easiest cars to change shocks on. Go for it.

Just did mine about 2 months ago. Used the Gas AC Delco's from Mid America. Piece of cake.

Just changed the shocks on my '87 Vert. Went with the AC Delco gas ones. The ride is much better now.

Good luck.

I replaced my shocks about 6 mos. ago. I agree: One of the easiest things to do on my '89.

I would rather change all 4 shocks once a month for a year than have to do the headlight gear/bushing thing again!

Replacing the shocks on the vette is a pretty simple and straightforward job. You cant get into too much trouble doing this, even if it is your first time.

I've heard that too. I have the original Bilstiens that were not on the car when I bought it. Do you know how to get them rebuilt? Are they a stiff shock or floaty? Do you know how they would ride/handle compared to KYB?
