Default Oil Change Intervals

I have been reading a lot of credable ideas on this subject, but it seems to me it is about as personnel as picking a mate for life. For some it is one thing and for others another. What I found in a woman for me to live with for 43 years may not be what you are wanting. With that said in the end when to change the oil is as personnel to your needs as when you decided to get married or divorced And finally any oil & filter change is better than none at all.

A good woman? Married for 43 years? You're doing life one day ar a time?
If God made any good women they're angels in heaven.
When I die I want to got to hell as there wont be any women in heaven.

Changing oil I use the guilt meter.

Okay, but let's not carry this reasoning forward to say that any woman is better than none at all (well, maybe once in a while). And if the analogy (alliteration or whatever) can be pushed a little; I wanna be in hell just long enough to see the dirty oil from my last change (divorce) get burned! I drove way too far before I dropped that mess into the pan. Happy to say I have a Mobil One kinda woman right now.

The question is, how many do you have to go through before you get a good one? Oil changes of course.

I kinda think its a crap shoot with a 12 guage. Oil changes that is.

The CHP changes oil at 5000 miles. They run 3,500 cars and they use Unocal 10w 30 re-refined oil. Re-refined oil is used oil sent back to oil company then its filtered and the additives are replaced.

Research showed that 4000 miles was too soon and 6000 miles was to late.

CHP cars are run hard everyday in every kind of weather, from freezing temps to desert heat.

Honda reccomends every 3k.
Porsche every 15000 or once a year.
With a Corvette anywhere between 3 to 5k is in the ball park.

I agree with Redwing.... 3-5 K miles is the range for today's dino oils. synthetics let's you stretch that if you choose, but i you do I would use one of the oil analysis companies to analyse your oil from your car and guide you on how long you could safely extend your drain interval

i do it about every 5k no problem on any of the 3 vettes i have had. Now this one has to use synthetic (C5) it even costs me 40 bucks to do it myself!! Anywthing less than 5k with synthetic unless you drove through a dust storm is overkill.
