I won one of these programmers for my 94 LT1 off ebay. I specifically asked if it was returned to stock first but the guy never replied. Now I know why. I tried it today and got the mis matched VIN error.
Has anyone ever returned it to Hypertech to be reset? I would think they could charge a small fee to do this.
I am trying to contact the seller to get a refund and filed a complaint with Paypal. If he doesn't give me a good reply I will have to go thru my credit card to try and get my money back :mad
My impression from previous dealings with Hypertech is that they will take care of it for you. I had bought a first generation Hypertech programmer for my 95 from a forum member and Hypertech let me swap this for the newer (Plus) model at no charge.
I hope, my friend, that you didn't spend too much because Hypertech will NOT help you. I got one a few months back that the guy swore he unprogrammed. He even talked to Hypertech as well. Until the previous owner unprograms his car to clear it you are screwed. The Hypertech rep also told me that they won't help second owners or honor warantees after transfer. Reprogramming for a different car costs almost as much as a new unit. With such a poor attitude toward customers I doubt that I will buy anything from Hypertech.
I have not had a very good experience with Hypertech. I called regarding specific information regarding transmission shift points, and they did everything but hang up on me. I use their programmer, and I am happy with it, but I am very clear they are of no help whatsoever at customer service.
I am sorry to hear about your problem, but it is a common one.
I am going to install a new cam and heads later this summer, and will no longer be able to use the programmer due to the requirements for custom tuning. I have a 94 as well, so if you find yourself still in need of the programmer (hopefully after you get your money back from this one) let me know. Best of luck to you. I am afraid you will have much more luck with PayPal and your credit card than you will with Hypertech.
I can send it at any time, really. Unlike your previous encounter, I will just re-install the stock program, which will unlock the VIN and allow it to be used on your car.
I guess I should ask what you wanted to give for the unit, but a reasonable offer will not be refused. I really will not be able to use the unit once I install the heads and cam. (Really looking forward to that)
Look forward to hearing from you, and I hope everything works out with the return of your funds.

I actually sold a programmer on here to another member a while back... my trans am was completely put back to stock, did it myself... reinstalled the programming and then put it "to stock" 1 more time just to make sure.... boxed it up and saved it for sale later on....... finally sold it and when the other person recieved it, he got the error message about VIN#s.... told hypertech the problem and they laughed at me, they wouldn't help me for poopie! later found out the guy was using it on a different car than a 97 v-8 f-body, but still, i couldn't believe hypertech's customer support, never again will i buy anything from them other than thermostats
The one I won was the correct part number and the box description matched so ??
Sure sounds like Hypertech has some work to do on support. I geuss they figure the car is 10 years old. They want to sell new units so the best way is to avoid solving our problems with used ones. But as you can see from this post they have lost a lot of future sales !
