There are no legal long tube headers available in California. From what I hear, shorties are a waist of money. Some people get away with Hooker long tubes in California inspite of the smog rules.
any brands for the shorty headers?? i dont really need the long tube headers. the pass side manifold has been repaired at the flange so id really rather put some eo#ed headers on it than replace the one manifold with another stocker. the damaged manifold is causing y-pipe/cross brace interference......which in turn causes a really annoying banging/vibration at certain low rpm crusing speeds.....which is just total !!!! someone help...pleeeeeeze
If I'm not mistaken JBA headers in San diego carry or used to carry smog legal headers. I think there called Shorties. Call them and see if they have them or where you can get them used. Just my 2 cents from what I remember in searching for headers. I have the long tube headers from TPIS. So far no trouble getting passed the visual. Knock on wood.
Bad news, guys. I have an '88 too and have looked high and low. JBA is the only company that has a shorty with an EO#, but get this, they don't make them! I was so flabbergasted, I called JBA and gave them the part number. They don't make them! They went to all the trouble to get and EO# and then decided not to make them! Cripes, close but no cigar! I also emailed Hooker and the response was "sorry Charlie". Same story on long tubes, they eliminate the pre cats.
I don't know if I could help any, but I have an 85 with headers--and they have the smog runners welded on them, I don't care too much for them--I would like to get some polished headers. I'm not sure what to look for, long tube or short? I don't know too much about engines/exaust. I would consider selling mine if I could find a set I could use....thanks
