Default Question on accessing OBDII codes

Whenever someone asks about getting codes out of their '96, I've always seen it posted that the OBDII capable scanner/reader is needed, or "go to Autozone and have them pull the codes".

Now, in my service manual, there is a nifty procedure that will show codes & diagnostics on the dash display.

My question is this: Are there more codes or other info that can only be accessed by a reader, or can everything needed be displayed on the dash if one is inclined to go that route?

It's a bit of a misnomer. That method does kinda work, the problem is that the codes are much longer, and they won't display on the speedo correctly!

You are better off just motoring down to the Autozone, et.al., and getting it done.

Default Or you might want to....

Go to www.harborfreight.com and get a universal OBD11 reader for $39.95 and it comes with a book with all the codes.
