Default Odd shifting problems?

My 1985 Vette shifts fine when cold, after it warms up, It acts as if it has a shift kit and shifts hard, Especially hard in 4th gear.(feels like you hit a big pothole when it goes into 4th.) If I shift it manually, running the RPM/s high it shifts perfectly smooth (either cold or hot). It also appears to shift way to early if you let it shift on its own. It is in 3rd gear before I hit 15 mph and in 4th by 20-25 mph. The car has 95,000 miles . Any Ideas before I bring it in to the shop. Thanks.

Your shift cable that goes from the tranny to the throttle body may be worn out. it's really simple to change and pretty cheap. I always forget what the cable is called. My Iroc did the same thing I change that cable and adjusted it properly and it shifted fine. also the plunger or what ever it is that it hooks up on the tranny may be sticking. It controls your shift points

JMHO, I would actually prefer a firm shift rather than a smooth shift. I would actually like the 4th gear shift at 20-25 since that would really help fuel economy. My 4th gear shifts at about 35-40.

You would toast the 3-4 clutchpack at that low of a speed. There wouldn't be enough hydraulic apply pressure for a good engagement. One key to a long th700-r4 life is to keep it in D around town, under 40mph, not OD.
