Default Engine Cleaning Tips

Thanks for any tips and help. I just purchased my first corvette a 1995 coupe. I want to say this web site is very helpfull and great to use. I have the car all cleaned but have not done the engine yet. I have been told to be very carefull not to get water on the motor and do not power wash the engine because of the opti spark could get wet and cause lots of expensive problems. Does any one have any suggestions on the best way to detail the engine.

Simple Green seems to work very well. Lot of guys cover their opti with plastic baggies before cleaning. I don't have an opti, but I always cover the dist., alternator etc. And I always let the engine dry good before starting it.

Simple Green and take your time. Mother's wheel polish will make the alum. parts shine like chrome, but that too takes work. Most auto stores shell various brushes that can fit tight spots and Goodwill is a cheap place to buy t-shirts to cutup for rags.

After the Simple Green, dried and started, let it warm up just a bit.Spray AmorAll TireFoam everywhere, close the hood for about 10-15 minutes, open the hood and wipe off any excess. Shines like new!

Stay away from the front of the engine where the opti resides. It is very expensive to repair if you get water in it. I'm speaking from experience.

I use simple green and a spray bottle with water on the rest of the engine. Use a damp rag on the front.
