One more note -
If you buy AFR heads - buy them bare, their springs are crap and the valve seals are the non racing type.

You can also have the heads drilled to use both center bolt and perimeter valve covers.

ALSO - go with the competition CNC'd - the extra $$$ are worth it!!!!

85vet: who is a good vendor to go thru for the AFR heads? Also is the cost the same with or without the springs and valve seals?

Thanks Chad

id order from tpis.. they are all setup for you. $1850.00

or order direct from afr the way you want them. you will save about $400.00 if you order bare, then you will have get the springs and valves that you want.

thats what i did......got $100 off though ($1,750), and shipping was free. I begged them for the free shipping, saved about another $50. These are 187cc runners with 54cc chambers, good to .600 lift, assembled by TPIS, 100% CNC'd intake/exhaust, and ported to AFR's Competition level porting, all with TPIS's program. Its a joint venture deal between TPIS (CNC programming) and AFR (their casting).....see www.TPIS.com and call Jim.

I paurchased mine from www.strokermotor.com in Novenber of 2002. Not sure if they still handle them, it was drop shipped to me. Price was unbeatable - just check it out to see if they still sell them.

TPIS's price does sound reasonable.

Hey TPIS looks to be the best price, but what would be the the cost for better springs, valves etc.. If I bought the bare head setup?

Also they offer a spring upgrade for 50 bucks But unsure if it is worth it??

These AFR only come LT4 version so that means a intake upgrade??

Thanks for the info everyone, Chad

you will not need the upgraded springs unless you go with a big lift solid cam. tpis afr heads come in an lt1 version, i think. if you do get lt4 heads you WILL need to change intake.

if you plan on assembling your new motor with your old heads then upgrading to tpis heads after i would shoot for a 10.25/1 cr (stock). because with the 54cc chambers on the tpis heads you will be close to 10.8/1 .
