Ok since shifters are the talk of the town, I thought I would ask a question. The hurst shifter says you lose the reverse lock out. What does this mean? Without the reverse lockout how do you put it into reverse being that reverse is 6th. Thanks

Reverse is 6th? Not the last time I checked...reverse is to the right of 6th. The reverse lockout, from what I understnad, is an extra measure to make sure that you do not accidentally put the car into reverse instead of 6th while driving. My car had it removed when I got it. Honestly, I can't see how someone could really do it unless they wanted to...reverse is a FAR move to the right. I have a B&M shifter now and have never had an issue with not having the lockout.
the lockout is a pain in the ***, really. You have to pull up that stupid t-handle (kinda like a flash back to 1967, I guess, but not in cool chrome!) and then shove the damned thing into reverse!!! I dare you to try and shift into reverse at 70mph!!! the gear box just won't let it happen.
I cant rememebr what they call it,,,, I think a Breaktrough or something like that, where it takes more effort to get it into the Reverse slot, so you cant accidently put it into Reverse instead of 6th.
Look at it this way, you will probably never use 6th gear, depending on your rear gearing.
If you want to keep the R lockout go to the ZF Doc or White Racing and buy his short throw modifed stock shifter.

It was actually in '95 that it was removed. I agree that is a PITA. That is one of the reasons I'll be installing a Hurst shifter soon.

The cool chrome T was around for the C3 and I loved the look. Puttin' a Hurst in my '94 when I get home from this extended trip. The reverse lock out in my Dakota 5 spd is the grinding noise when I forget I don't have a 6th gear in it.
