Default Help With Retractable Cargo Area Cover

Hello All!

Not quite sure what the proper term for it is, but I need help removing the retractable black thing that covers the rear cargo area (which is what I call it).

Mine has stopped retracting, and I figured that I could probably remove it and wind the springs, like you would with a traditional home window pull-shade. Everything seems to be the same.

After pulling all the necessary parts (I think, anyways), I am unable to remove the part in order to wind it.

Also, if anybody has a spare one of those little plastic clip-jobbies that holds the carpet down under the rear panel, I kinda need one!

Thanks in advance for your help!

The ends are spring loaded. All you have to do is stick a long screwdriver at either end and push towards the center of the car and then you can pop it right out.

Is the screwdriver to go inbetween the roll and the black plastic end peices, or inbetween the black plastic end peices and the metal mounting bracket?

It goes at the end of the black plastic pieces. You may end up scratching the bracket that holds it(I did).

Think of the shade in this way-it's like a toilet paper holder. If you were to use a screwdriver to remove the roller from the toilet paper holder, it's the same for the luggage shade.

I've got another shade if you need one. It's used.

Thanks!

Hopefully, I won't be needing a new one!

I've been trying to gather up as much knowledge about this as I can, before I re-attempt this repair.

You guys know if this spring will re-wind like a normal home-style window pull-shade?

Cheers!

Well, maybe I spoke too soon!

I am now an expert on the removal of the cargo cover.

The only thing I can't quite do is re-wind the damn thing... I'm thinking that maybe the spring is broken on the inside, thus all of my winding efforts fall on broken spring connections.

Anybody have any insight?

Or a cheap (functional) unit they with to offload? And maybe the little push-in-clip that holds down the carpet?

Cheers!
