Try to open the hood on my 92 today. Pulled the lever inside and heard a pop sound and now lever is loose and hood is stuck shut.
Did cable snap? Or something inside come loose ?How can I open hood now? No emergency but would like to get it fixed before there is one.

AAARRRGGGHHHH
Mid America and everyone else sells a Gorden Killebrew tool that is supposed to get the hood open. It may be that your cable snapped at the handle inside the car. If it did. you might be able to grab the end of the cable with pliers and pull to open the hood.
Either way, unless you are mechanically handy, you are probably going to have to find an experienced mechanic to fix it
I've broken hood cables three times on my 86. Each time I used a coat hangar to pop the hood.
I got tired of tracking down and then changing cables, so I installed plastic cable ties that I now use to pop the hood, one side at a time.
I always was able to reach the broken side from standing on the opposite side of the car and reaching over and used the hood.
Takes a little time to hook the latch, since you can't really see where it is, but with patience you will eventually get it. I generally look at the side that has released to get an idea of where to slide in the coat hangar.
You can always by the special tool, but I tend to try the cheap way first; not that I'm cheap or anything.
Thanks guys but problem solved. I was standing outside staring at my car all pissed off and I hit the hood on passenger side latch. Decided to to try lever one more time and bingo, it opened! God was on my side for once.
I looked at the cable and it looked good. I guess it was frozen shut or something. At least I know how the latch contraption works now.
Maybe I will attach a wire to the mechanism just to be sure I can open it later on.
