Default electrical question

I am upgrading my 85 inside rearview mirror to the later type with lights in it. The two wire socket is obviously positive & negative wired with the switch on the mirror turning the lights off & on. The 3 wire plug is where my problem lies, when I use jumpers, all I can get to light is the small yellow light. I'm assuming that this plug is the one that is connected somehow to the interior light timer but where do the 3 wires come from that plugs into it? I think the mirror is out of a 96. I really want the lights to come on as I get in and go out by themselves. Any help will be appreciated.

Not real sure about that one but here is a guess.
The 3 wire plug might be for a "auto Dim" in the 96 set up.
Just find the wire that turns on the light and run a jumper to your door switch. Find the ground and... lights Close the door.... no lights

Just a guess, hope it helps.

Default Yellow Light

. The 3 wire plug is where my problem lies, when I use jumpers, all I can get to light is the small yellow light.

On my 93 coupe that small yellow light comes on when I turn on the headlight and it is connected to the dash light circuit. It puts a soft light over the shifter and ash trays.

Thank you John so much, I finally had it all figured out except the yellow light. Now I can set that up too. This forum is fantastic.
