Default What can i do for $500?

Hola everybody,

Because i've put myself on a budget, I'm limiting myself to only spend $4-500 right now on doing something to my car. What stuff can i do to my car to increase performance/handling/horsepower? I know i can't do a whole lot with just that much money, but even tweaking just a little something more out of my vette would just be icing on the cake.

I'm not looking to do any major stuff here... i'm just looking for somewhat easy stuff that i can do myself.

I have an automatic '93 LT1.

Humm depends on what you consider major but a catback exhaust or hotcam kit would run you around $500 (if you don't have to pay labor costs of course).

What tires do you have? How old? 2 new rear tires, GY Eagle F1 Supercar, will run you around $500. Or if you drive in ran, GY F1 GS-D3.
If tires are more than 5 years old, consider this.

If it is a 6spd--ZF doc's beam plates help handling. Check that name in Google. These installed are a lot less than $500.

A 30mm sway bar (front) helped my car since I have the base suspension. I also did new shocks. If your shocks are worn, start there.

Plugs are also a good idea, especially if original. If read some guys here that have pulled out the stock plats w/ 28 k and found 2/8 are shot. K/N airfilter with cut open filter lid is $70 for the filter.

Use stock filter. KNN flows marginally more, but allows that much marginally more crap in. It won't kill your motor, and it won't give you any power that's worth talking about. It's harder to service (paper is drop in, throw away) and makes your oil dirty faster. The oil can also get on the MAF from the filter, so don't over oil if you do decide to go that route anyway.

You can do small stuff such as a cut air-lid, some pulleys, maybe a used cat-back exhaust system, etc. There are some good "cheap" mods you can do, but research them and ask around on the forum before buying. For example, a Hypertech reprogram will not give you 20 hp on a six-speed, as advertised. In fact, don't waste your time with a reprogram until you've got some mods. For a little more than 500, you can put 4.10 gears in your Dana44. I spent $700 and, it was my best mod thus far.
