Default Headers!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!

1) How do you remove the dipstick tube? Any suggestion on getting the headers in on the passenger side?
2) There are these little metal tabs on the heads that have other flaps that stick up and are held on my two bolts.-what are these? Can I delete them? My headers will not fit with them on--
3) If I remove all the AIR stuff there appears to be a tube running to the fuel pressure diaphram? What do I do about this?
Also the appears to be a tube that runs striaght down towards the engine--where does it go? I can delete it correct?

Thanks Roger

OK, the dipstick tube is supposed to just pull out . Mine would not. I cut a slot in the flange and slipped them on from the bottom. The little clips should have plastic plug wire seperators on them. I kept the smog stuff but the vacuum to the FPR is needed and it remains even if you remove the AIR stuff. The tube going down the back of the motor should be feeding air from the smog pump to the cat.(unless you mean the little black one-it goes inside for the AC control) Search recent topics by Skateparkdave. He did a play by play with great pics and lots of great info. GOOD LUCK.

ok. #1) the dipstick tube will just pull straight up and out of the oil pan. install the headers, from underneath, and then re-install the dipstick tube.
#2) the metal tabs ( this must be an l-98 ) are your wire loom brackets to hold your spark plug wires, they keep the wires from dropping on the exhaust manifolds, and headers.
#3) this conduit piece runs across the valve cover from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold? if yes, it unbolts ( torx ) from both ends. your headers should have a tube running from # 8 to bolt to, don't drill this out, but you should block off the intake. there is a tube in front of the engine with a breather at the end, if you remove the rest of the air system, you can remove this also

your fuel pressure line should tie into the intake

I had to twist mine back and forth. mine was stuck into the block really good as well. I had my engine out when I removed it. wrap a towel around it to protect your hands, and twist it back and forth slightly pulling up on it. also make sure you dont bend it.

2) There are these little metal tabs on the heads that have other flaps that stick up and are held on my two bolts.-what are these? Can I delete them? My headers will not fit with them on--
Those are on the heads to hold in place the stock plug wire looms. I removed them on mine.

Before you go yanking the vacuum lines, you should probably take some pics and post what you want to remove. to me it sounds like you are looking to remove the fuel pressure vacuum line, which is not smog stuff, and should not be removed.
I am not sure what you mean by a tube that runs straight down the engine. could you describe it better? what it is attached too, where it runs to exactly?

also what year is this? I am asuming an L-98 with those tabs on the heads?

Whooooooooops. The small hard plastic tube that runs to the fuel pressure diaphram from the air divertor is VERY brittle (this means while trying to remove it it broke into many small pieces.) In another post someone told me I could remove it and plumb it to the plenum, as there is a fitting very close on the rear/passenger side of the plenum. Is this correct?

The other rubber hose/tube runs straight down the front of the engine as best I can see............it comes out the bottum of what was the solenoid that was attached to the ac unit.

My plan is to get the headers finish mounted and the air pump eliminator on, and smog stuff removed tomorrow.

hmm... something sounds wrong to me. air diverter? sounds to me like you are talking about the line that runs to the EGR valve, and not the fuel pressure. or someone messed up your vacuum lines.

The fuel pressure regulator is under the distributer. the EGR is under the plenum.

I am thinking, is this the metal tube that goes down behind the main pulley? if yes, then you can remove it. it is some sort of silencer for the smog pump. I have a 90, and mine is slightly different, so it is a bit difficult for me to imagine right now.

this thing is a round rubber dome fixed at an angle to the intake manifold that has a very small line running out of it.

Can someone post a picture for me?

I'm not sure about the round rubber dome thing you describe or I would photo it for you.

Here's what I did with the metal plug wire guide clips. Just grinded away one bolt hole per clip and mounted them with one bolt only for header flange clearance.

I have no idea. I cant think of anything rubber on the intake.
When you say mounted at an angle, all I can think of is fuel regulator?

Here are some pics I found on the net. tell me if the part you are talking about is in any of them.
