does anyone have any good tips / tricks for removing the slip-on Y pipe from a set of headers? the cat is off the tail end, but i can't seem to wiggle the 3" Y pipe off the headers.
soon i'll just take a sawz-all to the damn thing!!!!!!!!!
thanks for the offer - very much appreciated! unfortunately, my wife is working tomorrow, so i'll have both kids. i think i'll take them bowling...
anyway - i'll probably give it a shot tomorrow night and see if a little heat + a B.F.H will do the trick. if that doesn't work, i might need some help if you're around over the next few weeks. either way, you are welcome to stop by at any time for the gaskets.
weather should be nice for some cruising this weekend!!
without the torch I would use the sawzall and try to cut the end and peel it back some cause without a lift your asking for trouble already..
or cut it with the sawzall and the try to rock it out when you reverse the procedure get a exhaust clamp band style
i wound up wrapping a tie down around the rear of the Y pipe and connecting the other end to the frame near the rear of the car. i cranked it down snug, then tapped on the lip of the Y pipe at the header (with a cold chisel and 10 lb. hammer) and it slowly slipped off without damage to any parts.
i was gonna say a 4' 2x4 and a 10lbs hammer. put the 2x4 in the V part the Y pipe and start swinging
