Default just got dynoed!

Just got my 1996 auto LT1 dynoed with the Peach State Posse.. Ga's corvette group!

best was

256rwhp
301rwtq

my tq curve maxe from about 3-4700 then starts to fall
my hp curve is aweful! it climbs from under 200 at 3200 til it maxes and stays at about 5000-5500

I need a tune bad it was running really rich.

my current mods are:
hedman LT ceramic coated headers...by me
under drive pullies
k an n open air lid
muffler elims
no cats just stock resanator
bbk 52 mm tb
accel spark plug wires...

now I do have a leak on cylinders 4 and 6 from where the headers go on... because the headers dont fit me car...they are for an l98 stupid ebayer! So I am thinking of switching over to EM lts...if they are the same length!(because I dont want to have to get more exhaust work it would just cost more $!)

and I just bought 1.6 gm rrs and a friend in the PSP is giving me some ls1 springs for free free=good

I hope to also buy and install a hot cam later this spring..

But my car is just now completely up and running for the first time it about 4 months and i can acctually feel a slight push back in the seat!
just though Id share

I think your problem is not that they are for L98s, but that they are Hedmans. There are plenty of guys running Hooker 2151s (also designed for L98s) on there LT1s with no problem.

Glad you're back on the road...but why were you down for 4 months? What was going on with the car?

Were these numbers generated on a Mustang dyno?

How did you end up with leaks on the Hedmans? Gasket issue? I'm running Hooker 2151's, which are also L98 items...but no problems...just curious.

Can you post the dyno curve?

Your problem is the hedman, they are cheap for a reason

Im thinkin you should be puttin down more rwhp than that. My stock dyno ran those numbers. After I put hookers on I ran 276rwhp. The torque is definately there, but the hp is getting robbed from something.

its the header leak!
yes i guess it is the hedmans..havent had ne expirence

do you know if any of the other headers are the same length as the hedmans?

I should be putting close to 300 hp to the wheels! with my bolt ons etc...

its gotta be the headers!
and i need a tune bad
running rich

i also have 80k on the odo

and I cant post tq curve...its all midrange! 3-4700ish its almost a strait line! then drops below 290 til redline

hp climbs from below 200 to 250 from 3000-5000

hope this helps

and i ended up with leaks because the bolt holes on the headers are too close to the primaries and it makes me not able to tighting down a couple of bolts all the way!
I need some new headers! that r the same length! so no exhaust work is needed!

My Hooker headers bolted up just fine. I also have 86K on th od and I just dynoed those numbers from above. Once you get that leak fixed and tuned you should be higher than me when I just had headers.

yea it should

I have arp bolts they are really short....
I know!
Does arp or any one make bolts where you can use a allen wrench to tighten them on the top? that would work!

also can I put silicone sealant in between the gasket and headers? or will it burn off?

thanks alot your friend

Default Well...

Let me guess...#8 is one of your leaks?

You can use a crows-foot to get at the bolts you can't tighten down with a socket. I had to use one on #8 and come at it from under the car when I installed my Hookers.

You can use stainless Allen-head bolts as well.

You should use a high-temp gasket sealant like Permatex between the headers and the gasket...and again on the other side of the gasket where it will contact the exhaust ports. Some say this isn't necessary, but it sure is cheap insurance!

no its not # 8
its 4 and 6

I have removed my entire ac system, including the evaporator core and housing! # 8 is no longer hard to get to

also I need a header bolt that I can tighten with an allen wrench(not a screw driver wratchet etc...!)
does any one know if ARP or anyone makes these? or ne one else

thanks your friend

AH HA!!!
sucess!
I just called ace hardware up the street and since i knew the name you gave me, ALLEN HEAD bolts, they were like yea we got them
haha shows how much I know about bolts!
95 polo thanks agian and to all you other guys thanks too!
I will Also let yall know my 1/4 time the 19th so maybe see if the prob has been fixed!

but the loss in power I am equating to the loss of pressure on the exhaust ports alloing some of the gasses to escape giving the 02 sensors lean lean readings and causing my car to run rich as shait!
this explains alot now that i think about it!
