So how much of an improvement do you get over the LT1 13" system? Is it worth doing the front and rear, and how much for the whole conversion? How do these compare to some of the after-market companies?
If I am not mistaken, you also need to doublecheck the type of wheel that you are running as it may require spacers. I remember that when I investigated this issue with my 1994 LT1, this was the case. As for the braking improvements over a J55 system. I have the J55 setup on mine. I use the car for track events on a monthly basis. With racing pads in an otherwise stock setup, the stopping power is adequate, while it lasts. If you use the brakes hard, you will experiance brake fade, overheated brake related problems and extremely poor longevity. If you upgrade to Motul 600 fluid, SS pistons (thru DRM) and brake ducts (DRM, etc) you will eliminate the fade and have a workable system for the track. Your brake consumption and expense(racing pads are $170+ a set on the fronts) will however be high. A set of pads per two events if you are lucky, otherwise be prepared to change them every time out. I doubt that the C5 or Z06 setup will yield dramatically better stopping power(that is more a function of your pad choice) but your longevity should improve BECAUSE the pad thickness is considerably greater, not to mention greater pad selection choices; the rotors are also much cheaper. The most cost effective solution for a heavily driven track driven car may be an aftermarket big brake system.
Also i forgot to mention. If you do the C5 upgrade on the front, you will have to use A-mold's or C5 wheels the 17" sawblades will not fit over the C5 calipers.
The C5 setup would like great, but I dont have the cash to by new A mold wheels (especially the lighter weight GM ones).
So this leaves the Baer Eradispeed setup as an alternative for C4 owners who do not want to get rid of the sawblades (I even have an extra set of sawblades with race tires for easy swap on swap off)...
this kit has eradispeed lightweight slotted/drilled rotors on all 4 corners, stainless flex lines, and J55 calipers up front with the 'BAER' name on it)
Whats better the eradispeed setup or the C5 setup..?
