700r4 trouble
A couple of weeks ago while just cruising my '86 lost 3rd & 4th.I know 700r4s are notorious for going out at about a 100k and thats where I'm at.But after reading some threads I'm wondering if the govenor might be the culprit.Does anyone know how to get the govenor cover off and how hard is it to replace?

Losing the 3/4 clutch pack is the main reason that a 700 r4 wears out. It is a common way to die of old age. You likely need a rebuild. There are better 3/4 clutch packs out there. Many to choose from with different amount of discs, steels and linings.

The same thing happened to my '85 last summer. You're looking at a rebuild. Whoever does the job, make sure they use quality parts. This is a job you want done right the first time. Good luck!
