Unless you have some more mods (didn't see a sig or mods list anywhere) that are going to push you into the area where a bar becomes necessary, I would do the gears. If you have other work done, and are catching flak at the local drag strip for not having a bar, then the bar would be the way to go.
Either way, a ZF6, some ET streets, a 4.09 gear, and a 6k clutch dump at the track is a feeling like no other. These cars, even in stock form, will cut some amazing 60' times with the right gear and tire combination.

I have a S+T frame support in my car. I really like what it has done in respect to the firmness of the ride. I have much less frame twisting than before which is quite a plus in these cars.
How tall are you? Do you have the seat all the way back? This is the main problem with the S+T for me cause I'm pretty tall and I'm not sure I'm gonna keep the bar due to my losing a few presious inches. Other than that I love what it has done for handling
I'm sure gears are great but I'd figure them to be more money. I have also heard gears aren't as great of a mod in the L98 as they are in the LT-1. This might make a difference in you desicion making process.

I totally agree with that. Unless you have done some extensive modding I don't think 4.11s will do much for an L98...........I'd be spending my mod money elsewhere.
speed b4 safety!!!!
go with the gears!

I don't know about that, but I was gonna say gears right off as well until I realized you have an L98. You really need to rely on other L98 owners for advice on this one w/ respect to the gears. If I were chosing the two for my LT4, it'd be the gears - no brainer. But on a 91, I dunno... Hopefully some more people "in the know" will chime in...
Gears. And your profile says you have "too many mods to list" so I guess the motor probably isn't stock and if that is the case, I think you would benifit from gears before a frame support. Just my .02

i just wanted the rollbar for looks. i do go to alot of car shows. the gears i will do i just didn't know if there was a big diffrence from 3:45 to 4:11's? there is a easy way to fix this i'll get both.
You will notice a big difference between 3:45 and 4:11s. You will be shifting into 2nd gear before you get halfway through a large intersection. But it will be fun.

I'm new to the Corvette scene but coming from a long background in racing, I don't see how increasing gear ratio from a stock gear would not be very good mod. I could understand not recommending more than 3.45:1 but the factory doesn't put enough gear in there.
I just got my '87 and my first mod will definitely be some headers and dropping the cats but gears will probably be the next step

I'm sure that would be fun in a ZR-1, since you'll continue to keep pulling all the way to 7000 RPM. In an L98 however, you'll be in second before you cross the intersection, third just after you clear the intersection and then the car will be done pulling shortly after that. The problem in the L98 is that it makes it power and torque very low on the RPM band so with more gear all you do is exit this short power band very quickly.
In my 91 I originally had 2.59s and I ran it at the track pretty regularly. I switched to 3.07s and saw a very slight improvement. I later went to 3.33s and saw no gain over the 3.07s. My 60' times with the 3.33s actually improved slightly over the 3.07s, but I think I lost a little on the other end of the track. My car is an auto though, so that could have a little effect on my results, but even considering that my opinion is that 4.11s are way too much gear for an L98
