Default PART 2, L98 Nitrous install completion. (PICS)

For those who missed part one click here.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1012371

Part 2 began with me spreading all the parts out on the table and drawing some plans. Then I commenced to mounting the throttle body spray plate, the WOT switch, the N2O and fuel solenoids and the purge solenoid. Then hooked up all the fuel and N2O lines and low fuel pressure safety switch and then ran all the wires in heat resistant yellow flex loom, fused the 12volt constant wire and 12volt key on wire and hooked up the grounds and relay. Then I completed job by building a switch panel out of plexi glass and mounted dash switches. There’s a system activation toggle switch, a purge button, my manual fan toggle and a coil cord spray button that can be held with steering wheel for actual spraying while driving, all built into one small panel.

As in part one, click the thumbnails to view pics. They are in order as installed.

This thread was not intended to brag but to help anyone else out doing this. I only WISH I could have found some pics of a good L98 install before I did mine.

Hope this helps someone. I’ll let you know how it performs soon.

Enjoy!

P.S. Special thanks goes out to forum member REDC4CORVETTE who took the time to answer my questions early on giving me the confidence to tackle an N2O install.

Yeah well, live and learn. :o Someone here locally already hipped me to the fact that it wasn't needed. I thought I was being thorough. At least I made sure there was no overhang. I'll probably remove it before running.

Make sure you don't use teflon anywhere fuel may come in contact with it. ex., fuel feed line.... otherwise your ok.

Oh yeah, and be very careful when tightening those fittings. Them little bastards strip real easy. Ask me how I know :bb

take ALL the teflon tape off NOW. You can get pipe dope from autozone.

Otherwise, nice job, oh and you'll be bored with 80 HP. Once you put the 125 jets in you'll never take them back out.

The vague instructions that came with my kit told to use teflon tape at the jet orafices for easy access to jets. So I just took it a step further and did all the fittings. I was very careful to wrap left to right clockwise and not overlap or leave any scraps. Just wrapped threads only. I used "Earls" fuel line teflon tape from summit and even soaked some in gas for about an hour to test it. It didn't dissolve. I have no system leaks right now so is it an emergency to get it all off immediately?? PITA!

Default teflon tape

It takes just one very small piece to stop the solenoid from closing all the way, if it's the fuel side, not a big deal. However if it's the nitrous side, big problem.

My friend just bought a NX kit and i'll have to admit the instructions are really nice and the book stresses the importance of not using tape several times.

Sorry for the bad news, the pic's are nice and the rest of the install looks great.

I would think the fuel side would be a bigger problem. A blockage on the nitrous side would just make it run rich like when the bottle pressure is low. Now a blockage on the fuel side would run it lean and that would be trouble. Well, I guess if the nitrous solenoid stuck open it could be a problem. Thats when I would turn the key off and find neutral. If it wasn't too late.

Regardless, I'm going to remove it anyway and make sure the lines and solenoids are clear before I spray. That'll give me a little project to do while I wait on my bottle warmer to arrive.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Dave

Looks good.

Nitrous is the one power adder I'd never fooled with.

Your set up looks really great. I just can't bring myself to do it. I would love to hear how it performs.

I don't think a piece of teflon will have an effect on the solenoids. The thing you want to avoid is getting a piece teflon in the fuel system and plugging up your injectors but maybe I'm wrong.

Fo real!! But I dont see a piece backtracking to the fuel rail and making it to an injector. But who knows?? If a piece goes into the intake where I'm spraying, I'm pretty sure it would be burned up quickly with the fuel and nitrous and discarded as vapor with exhaust. It's the jets and solenoids that are what to worry about.

OMG! I warmed my bottle with a heat pad in my garage to get the pressure up to 1000psi because my bottle heater hasn't arrived yet. I took her out for a spin and hit the button a couple of times and WOW! Just a 50 shot makes a pretty nice difference in the seat of pants! I think I'm hooked guys!! I'm going to try the 80 shot tommorrow then maybe go 125. This stuff is awesome! But from what I felt with only 50 I may be happy with just the 80hp jets. We'll see.
