Default Code 36-what's

Started the vette last week and SES light stayed on, didn't have time to check codes, checked oil, coolant, and off I went (5 miles) stopped car, came out later and same thing. Well was going to check codes next day-but no SES light-hmmmm, running great. didn't do it for 3-4 days, then yesterday-once, checked codes just now, code 36. Since it seems to be intermittent, I suspecting MAf relay. I'm not good with an ohm meter-what do you think? 87, auto

Thanks in advance.

Pull the fuse on the ECM (wait about 30 sec.)and reset the codes.
If you throw the 36 again I would change out the MAFS.
Some times they throw codes in the winter time because it's cold out and the air is not so dence.
I would also check the MAFS and make sure it's clean and the wire is still iinside it.

PS.. Hey Rick......

Hey Sniper, how are you? I checked connections, removed negative and a few surprises. First when they put my new front end on they left off a vac line to the canister up in the front drivers side. Then while I was checking connections on relay I found one of my lines with a fuse in it disconnected. Put a new fuse in, connected the vac line started-no SES light yet. Who knows. Hope things are going good for you-and all the members.

A code 36 on a 92 and up is Opti-Spark high res signal problem. I am getting that error as well, and it's a new opti-spark. I clear the codes, and as soon as I start it it gets set again.

Mike

Edit: Oops... I see you've got an 87.

I don't know diddly squat about trouble shooting a MAF, but I DO know that colder air is MORE dense than hot air.

It sounds like he may have got it with what he found disconnected.

RACE ON!!!

That's the MAF burn off code.

Replace the burn off relay on the firewall behind the battery.

My train of thought was either a bad connection or relay. After I connected the vac. line and electrical wire-which runs from the post behind the battery to the fan relay on the wheel well, disconnected battery to clear codes, went to the car wash and poker game and home-no SES light. If it come on again I will replace both relays behind the battery-thanks Guys, I really appreciate your help.
