From: St. Peters MO Sometimes you have to prove yourself by doing alot of killing or alot of dying...
I went with the Walmart brand. It is the same as any other battery unless you start introducing Optima and other deep cycle cells. A battery is a battery... no sense in spending more $$$ than needed.
I get mine from costco. They were rated very good in consumer report, and they have one of the best warrantys on the market.
The best thing about the Costco battery is if you want a new one for he hell of it just take the old one back and exchange it they don't do any testing
I put nothing but Diehard batteries in all my vehicles, they make the best batteries & the last thing I want is a dead battery
You see the problem with batteries is that depending on what vintage it is, anybody could have made it. Especially with places like Sears. Look at the Kenmore brand, years ago everything Kenmore was an exact copy of Whirlpool. Then it changed to something else, now I think they're back to Whirlpool again. Sears doesn't make batteries, they just put their name on whoever is the lowest bidder and gets the contract for a few years.
In my case you couldn't pay me to put a Die Hard battery on my car. It went from starting the car fine to COMPLETELY dead and leaving me stranded in the time frame of 4 hours. No I didn't leave me lights on! I like a battery that fails over time and gives some warning. Fortunately I was just on the other side of town. Had I been out of town I would have been even more pissed off than I was!
BTW when I say dead I mean COMPLETELY DEAD. It didn't even have enough power to excite the field windings in the alternator. As such the altnernator never started charging. Thus I was able to get a jump start and limp the car every bit of 1 mile before the absolute last bit of energy was sucked out of the battery and it died in the middle of the street. From a 40 MPH roll I couldn't even start the car back. Yeah there's a quality battery.
Batteries are like anything else, a crap shoot. Personally I bought an Optima to replace my Sears Die Fast and couldn't be happier. I have accidentally drained it many times over the past three years and it has always come right back to life. It also has the spiral cell design which is not likely to get damaged by vibration intensive environments such as running an autocross course.
Nathan I heard a couple of years ago that sears had changed battery manuf. had alot of problems with them, like you had, then changed back. I believe they have interstate produce them now. Fortunately I haven't had any problems with them over the years.
I'm sure they're fine now, but I'll still never buy one. It's just human nature to stay away from brands that do you wrong.
The same applies to everything in life. Retail sales is a great example. It takes at least 100 happy customers to make up for one pissed customer. Being the the computer support business I can tell you that we're the most under appreciated people on earth. People only talk to us when it's broken and it's ALWAYS our fault! As such people have a very bad view of us because we can't always get to their problem immediately, never mind that other people had problems first, etc.
It's the game of life Sears is gonna have to do something really nice to ever make me buy one of their batteries. My father is the same way with Goodyear tires, etc.
A couple of months ago I got a SYS light and was near a repair shop I know...I had them test the old (bad) and put in what they had...believe it or not it is a Bosch battery...so far no problems at all....
I have a duralast from autozone.I didnt realize it already had the same brand in it when I bought this one,but the one that was in the vette was the one that was in there when I bought the vette, and it was still good when I changed it out a few weeks ago,but I started getting worried because Ive had this vette for about 4 1/2 years and didnt know how old the battery was that was in it.
Sears is gonna have to do something really nice to ever make me buy one of their batteries..
Sears will NEVER sell me another battery or tire....I've stuck to this promise for over 30 years............
As they explained it to me, Diehard batteries are never meant to last the full warranty period...if they did the cusomer might loose the motivation to come back to Sears.....you are supposed to view it as a "rental".......I went thru 3-4 with average life of less than one year.....no more for me, I want reliability!!!
