Well, I finally got it running...at least good enough to break it in. I thought putting it all together and getting it to start would be the hardest part of the whole thing. But was I wrong....the hardest part is not hammering it!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, I just want to get it over 4k so bad.......I know it wouldent be right...it just sounds and feels so good...well another day of driving it and im that much closer!hurray::
here comes the fun new engine, change the oil often. I did mine after the first 20min run in. Again at 25miles. Again at 100miles. And at 500miles. And then again at 1000miles. After that every 3000miles. The first 500miles of breakin are very hard on the oil. And oil is cheap compared to the overall costs involved in the rebuild. You can hammer it after 200miles or so. The rings are the only thing that really breakin in a roller motor and usually are fully broken in a 1000-1500miles. The bearings just need to go through a few heat cycles. I started fullthrottle at 150miles and have had no problems. Just fun fun fun

If I ever build a motor I'm gonna start getting on it after the 500 mile mark.
Oil:
Initial startup and warmup - change
100 miles - change
500 miles - change, start driving more aggressively but leave it off the readline
1000 miles - change go to synthetic, drive it like I stole it.
A local engine remanufacturer told me the same thing. Hammer that puppy immediately in order to seat the rings well. Babying it is not a good idea. Don't you just love this stuff?!
i'll be going through the same process with my 383 within the next week or two - i can't wait!
my engine was initially run on a dyno, but still needs to be fully broken in.
do you guys think it would be ok for me to see if it starts, run it for about 10 minutes, then shut it down for a few days? reason being - i need to turn the car around in the garage in order to finish everything up. my driveway is steep, so pushing it out, turning it around, and pushing it back in isn't an option.
