Does anyone have an indash TV or NAV system installed in the 90-96 style dash? I'm looking more at the motorized screens. If so I would like to see some pics. This is for an idea I was playing with.
I was thinking of installing a DVD/computer screen in the passenger side that allowed me to watch and manage the Accel DFI system. I figured it would be outrageously expensive.
I would talk to Kittmaster about it if I were you. I asked him about it a long time ago.
i was wondering if a screen could be put in where the warning signals flash up. seems ot be an awful waste of a space up there... wud be nice to have a nav in there or a display for the dfi.... ideas ideas...
I think with a motorized unit you'll have problems hitting the shifter. My head unit can not open all the way while in park. I've also had thoughts about mounting a screen in the glove box. You would have to from the passenger side airbag on the 94-96 models, but I think the 90-93 has potential.
Corvette Kid NC I fully agree. Lets put a picture display in everyone's car while I get slammed for using my cell phone.
i dont watch very many DVDs (the last time i had a DVD movie in there i think was to take that picture) i like the large screen which is useful in glancing down quickly to see what song it is on instead of looking at tiny writing and the other reasons why i bought my unit was that i can play burnt DVD-rs which is nice with my music collection (around 5000 songs) and that i can get the nav unit when funds permit so i can have navigation...i also like toys and it is just another one
what would you like me to take some pictures of? BTW that dash plate is trimmed a little but i replaced it and got the metra dash kit for C4s and it fits the stock dash plate with no modifications

Metra Dash Kit? I would like to see the unit non installed crutch field only shows the face and front of the unit. How hard was it to install, I obviously removing the stock unit is no big deal, but interms or what needs to be modified to have the unit fit correctly?
Thanks,
-=Rick

that metra kit, i dont have any pictures of just the unit uninstalled, it looks like a big box, it is 4" tall and is the width of a din unit...i didnt have to modify the dash piece at all except remove the support inside the dash but you have to do that for almost any installation of any aftermarket radio. installation took about 45 min fitting it and what ever time it takes you to wire it...the unit has to be mounted as high as you can go so it does not hit the dash panel when opening...if you have an auto it does hit the shifter but it stops once it feels resistance so you have to be in neutral or in anything other than Park to change CDs...i will try to email you pictures tomorrow night when i can use a digital camera
Check your regs. All states permit the screen, what they don't permit is presentation on that screen.
If this was true, every BMW, Audi, Mercedes, et.al. that have nav screens or DVD systems would be illegal. They are not.
On the BMW the screen is connected to the speedo so if you are watching TV the second you pull away the picture goes off but the audio continues , if you stop at the lights after a short period the picture will come back on, then as you start to move again it the picture will go off again .....etc.....etc

all indash units come with a wire that is supposed to be connected to the parking brake...if the parking brake is engaged (wire grounded) you can use the screen to watch movies, if the wire is not grounded, you usually can only control audio and not video, but you can obviously bypass this by just grounding the wire all the time...like i said before, i didnt buy my unit to watch movies, rather for the capabilities of DVDrs and an easy to see/use touch screen
