Default Overflow tank question

I have a '90 coupe, and the overflow tank seems a bit warped where the threads are. The cap is also pretty jacked up with have of the little gasket missing. It takes some serious work just to get it on there, but I'm sure there isnt any type of air tight seal. SO, what i'm wondering is whether this thing needs to be replaced, or if it even matters. I suppose if the engine is trying to draw from the overflow as in a recovery type deal its just getting air, which obviously would be bad for the system. It looks like I can get a new one with cap for under $20, so I guess i oughta just try it. Would this have caused any type of damage?

If you can get the part number go to one of CF venders, GM partsDirect. com, they are half price on all their stuff.

That was the first place I looked, I clicked on the forum link for c4 parts, found the tank for $13.50, and the cap for $5. Shipping will probably be $79.95 thus bringing the total up where it normally is. I don't think I've ever once bought anything for this car without using at least one $100 bill
