remember the code I emailed you? those are correct from my helms manual.

The haynes and chiltons are **** poor at doing any diag work.

www.helminc.com

helms publishes the GM factory service manuals. The email with the JPGs is straight outta the helms manual.

As best as I know, 72 is the Speed Sensor - Is the speedometer not working? And 41 is the Opti - engine running poorly? If you want something quick, you can subscribe to Alldata - www.alldata.com - and at least get the Trouble Tree Charts. Otherwise, Helms is invaluable.

41 is the Serial Data.

Opti codes are 16 and 36.

For a 91 OBD-1 Vette the codes should mean:

41 - Cylinder Select Error Circuit (1985-1991)
72 - Gear Selector Switch Fault (Start Lockout)

41 -> Check wiring at ECM. Possible PROM failure, or incorrectly seated PROM. Reseat PROM. Possible ECM failure.

The site recommended by Mike C4 is a good one, but the page he recommends is not for your 91 Vette. You need the ECM chart for 91 5.7L VIN engine digit = 8. Try http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/90-91_578.shtml

Some of the code meanings changed between vehicle years. If you use the definitions from later years than your 91, you willbe chasing your tail needlessly.

His is a 92... 1991 is different.

And there is real difference depending on where you get the code from. In Eric's case, he is getting the code from the CCM, not the ECM, so the code number is different.

My mistake. I misread the year. Time to have my glasses prescription checked.
