Default Need injector help ASAP

Hey everybody.

I replaced my stock injectors about 2 months ago (had a couple that were leaking.) I went with a set of 24lb/hr accels (that was the flow rate accel recommended for a TPI setup.)

Stock injectors are 22 lb/hr .... so why did they tell me to get injectors that flow 2lb/hr faster? My vehicle is running like crap. Idles real rough, block learn is around 108 or so, so the ECM can't compensate for whatever extra fuel I'm getting.

I am installing an AFPR tonight, to try and help my situation out a little bit - IE i'll bump back rail pressure to try and lean my vehicle out a little bit - the accels flow 24.3 lb/hr @ 43.5 psi - what PSI are GM injectors rated at? How much should I bump off the pressure to get the injector to behave something like a 22lb/hr would?

help ASAP would be appreciated, as I'm leaving for the shop in a few hours. TIA.

I'm surprised your having that much of a fueling problem with 24Lb injectors. You'll probably have to drop the pressure down about 5Lbs, which I believe is the limit of the regulator. Accel injectors do not have a great reputation, they seem to have a high failure rate. Stock injectors are rated at 43Lbs pressure.

Only problem with dropping the pressure is it effects the spray pattern of the injectors.

The stock fuel pressure on my "91" Vettes "Multec" fuel injectors measure 50lbs with the vacuum line removed and plugged from the fuel pressure regulator and 40lbs with the vacuum line attached.

These readings are the stock settings from the factory and the L98 engine runs and idles very smooth with 53k miles on it.

I agree with JCAIRE2, in that the 24# Accels should not cause you that much grief. I put the same injectors in my 88 and it fired right up just fine. A little rich at first, but once you start to drive and go into closed loop the ECM should be able to compensate easily. A block learn of 108 means the ECM is feels that you have been running with a rich condition for a while. A value of 108 does not mean the ECM cannot compensate. The BLM can go MUCH lower and the ECM should still be able to compensate "if there are no other problems". What is your integrator value? That is the measurement of instant fuel adjustment. Is it way off?

I suspect you have something besides the injector flow change causing your problem. Did you reset the ECM and have you done anything to upset the Throttle Position Sensor or IAC? What are those reading?

It is always possible that you got a bad injector new out of the box. One might be sticking open or shorted.

Thank God I didn't do that. I was gonna get exactly what you got just to see what my 89 would do.

I have the accel 24 injectors in my 90 vette for 6 months now and they are great no problems here i think the car performs well with these over the stock injectors. Just installed them and fired up the car.
